Round 11: Port Adelaide vs Carlton

Postby hearts on fire » Mon Jun 02, 2008 5:07 pm

If the Power get up in this game, this could see them half a game out the eight.

North Melbourne, St.Kilda and Carlton are there abouts on the table with Port and have a real chance of catching them and leap frogging them.

North Melbourne have a tough match against Geelong and St.Kilda have another tough match against the Western Bulldogs.

I think the Power should be able to get up and win by about 5 goals.

For mine, Port pretty comfortably.

Anyone besides Collingwood of dubious quality we've struggled against so far. Port are only dubious when I think about which Port will turn up. On their day, at their best, Port will win this easily, but given that Port are at home, I see them winning by about 6 goals.

Carn the Blues :partyman:

A big ask as the guys don't do too well at AAMI but I reckon we're a chance

You guys and the Aints are the ones to beat this year if we have any hope of making the eight :prayer:

Here's your squad

B: Michael Pettigrew, Alipate Carlile, Troy Chaplin
HB: Peter Burgoyne, Toby Thurstans, Michael Wilson
C: Domenic Cassisi, Chad Cornes, Kane Cornes
HF: David Rodan, Warren Tredrea, Travis Boak
F: Daniel Motlop, Justin Westhoff, Robbie Gray
Foll: Dean Brogan, Steven Salopek, Danyle Pearce
Interchange: Jacob Surjan, Tom Logan, Brendon Lade, Natthan Krakouer, Paul Stewart, Damon White, Greg Bentley

IN: Cassisi, Bentley, White
OUT: -
But yes, it was a pretty pointless comment wasn't it?!

Maybe it's just my Sturt goggles but is Adam Thomson hard done in getting a game with Port, when he came in he played well, what does the kid have to do? This may turn into a Symes issue for Port.

I rate Carlton as a real chance here. In fact I'm doing some more research before deciding who to pick. Chad Cornes is a real problem for Port. As your most important player having him in the side going at half rat power is doing you and him no favours at all. I witnessed one contest where Chad practically pulled half of his body out of the contest to protect his injured hand. His possessions and influence is currently severely curtailed. The continued absence of S Burgoyne also hurts your side. Teams in the middle of the ladder simply cannot afford to have players of this quality out of the side in important matches.

I don't see Port as a vastly superior unit to Carlton. Carlton were pretty ordinary last week but they welcome back probably their most important player besides Chris Judd in Jarrod Waite who adds some real steel to the backline that has been sorely missing in recent years. If Waite goes to Tredrea he can counteract the skipper whose mobility has returned along with his form so Waite is a huge in.

Both teams have managed to win against teams outside of the top eight but at least the Blues have recorded a win against the Pies (has the Power beaten a top eight side yet?). Both sides are very similar but one real edge for Port over Carlton is in the ruck division. I think Carlton can win this game but I haven't actually tipped them yet. One thing I am sure of though is this won't be a walk in the park for the Power.

regards,

Undecided

In answer to your question REB, No.
The closest Port has been to beating a top eight side is St Kilda, who are currently ninth.

This a must-win game for Port - as are most, if not all, of their remaining games.

make sure you cheer them on for me. And bag anything named CHAD CORNES for me too if you could. I will be hoping he shirks another contest against Fev, just for the resulting banter more than anything.

Does anyone know if we've got Cheatin Ray Chamberlain assigned to our game?
