The funny thing about the 2002 game was everything went wrong for South. Dogs were firing all season (except for one particular day I can no longer remember.....) and South weren't great. My cousin's then husband was a junior development officer at South, but had to go to the league game instead of the juniors because one of the senior officials couldn't make it. Dean Brogan was dominating for South at the time and was their only really good player. He actually managed to hurt himself during the warm up and South lost their best player and played with 20 because they had already named their team!

Any doubt at all on Callinan and he won't play....why take the risk, with the bye to follow he gets another two weeks to get the hammy right.

Great.....

It used to be a great day out at Elizabeth, drive up to Elizabeth, watch Central belt the living suitcase out of the club, then drive back again!

Still Elizabeth was and is one of my favourite grounds to watch SANFL footy!

Hopefully its not another 195 point smashing, maybe Central will beat Sturt's record this year though and nudge over 100 points though!

Cant really see Callinan play this week, having had a quick chat to him at alberton 2 weeks ago, he said he would more than likely be back for the glenelg game after the bye. Not really worth the risk to bring him back this week. The guys that played against port did a great job and you would expect a similar performance this week.
I also heard that training on saturday was extremely hard and the guys are now starting their mid year heavy training sessions which they do every year to prime themselves for finals time, so they could be a bit flat for a few weeks.

I may be wrong, but i think a South player actually got a Magarey vote during that 2002 debacle.

You're right Mattee - he's the one.
I remember talking to him when he played for SA Country in the Australian Championships in the Riverland.
At the time he was talking about coming up to play for Loxton North in the following season.

Well you would hope not Centurion...

If there is still ANY niggle with his hammy AT ALL, then this week would be crazy to play him against a struggling South, considering we have the BYE next week and then the week after is probably our biggest game of the season to date. The Bays at home...

I don't think we will see any changes to the side this week, unless there is any niggling injury to maybe James Gowans who spent the 2nd half of the State Game on the bench. If he was to have a rest you would think an in form Lee Spurr would come in from the ressies. As much as I prefer him in the league side, I think Luke Cowan will have another run in the 2's this week.

Yes, 1999. Other wins since 1980 are: 1981, 1985, 1986 and 1991.

And no players from that match for South are left at the club in a playing role. Unless if you count Brogan. And for the record, Crabb was credited with 31 possessions, 9 marks and 2 goals.

F: A.Murray Kearney Mills
HF: Demasi Rogers Johnson
C: Kruger Crabb Sampson
HB: Manhood Steele Rigney
B: D.Clonan Cobb Ormond-Allen
R: Brogan Hall D.Murray
Int: A.Landorf Jackson Manuel

Despite being in 4th position after Round 7, South then scored the eventual lowest score for the season - 3.8 (26) and conceded the highest.

P.S - It was interesting to see in the Sunday Mail that the best player for Kilburn in the amatuer league, Div 3, was a player with the surname STENGLE... Good chance it was Alex Stengle who quit the club a few weeks back due to frustration at a lack of opportunity at league level. Real shame someone with his talent is now only playing Div 3 ammos ???!! Should be playing league at another club if he can't get into Centrals line up. Another rumor about the same thing with yet another fringe player, in Chris Musolino might now also be true as there was a Musolino named best for Virginia in The Adelaide Plains League. A shame if we lose another good kid from the club.

Yeah I know how you feel Big Phil a few ago the Maggies off-loaded a bloke named Nathan Buckley to Collingwood..............damn shame that....

With an average forecast of 17 or 18 and MAYBE a few light showers, what kind of crowd numbers do we think will attend this game ???

I'm going to take a stab abd say maybe just 2500 - 3000 with the poor Panther Fans only attributing maybe 500 to this number ???

What do others think ???

Crabb's career went downhill drastically after he took on the role of a punching bag on one infamous sunday afternoon at the ramsgate.

He obviously went back to Perth after his breif AFL career with The Power and has been a pretty consistant performer with Claremont, I think...

Always thought he was a pretty good footballer and was probably unlucky not to play a bit more at a higher level...

Back to the game at hand, I think the Doggies will totally dominate this game and have decided to change my mind with my winning margin. Centrals by 15 goals now...
