can Port finish 9th this year?

Postby Jimmy » Sat May 24, 2008 5:45 pm

with westies getting a win and with port on 2 wins and facing the dogs tomorrow, could port find themselves on the bottom of the ladder anytime soon?

If so, when was the last time port was bottom almost halfway through a season? spelly? ;)

will port recover to finish mid-table or will their injuries make them a realistic chance of grabbing the spoon?

lastly, when was the last time Port finished last? when adam was a boy?

IMO, no. We will finish bottom.

If so, when was the last time port was bottom almost halfway through a season? spelly? ;)

Rounds 15 and 16 1985. The only time Port has been on the bottom since then was Round 2 1996.

will port recover to finish mid-table or will their injuries make them a realistic chance of grabbing the spoon?

Not mid table, but as for the wooden-spoon, see above.

lastly, when was the last time Port finished last? when adam was a boy?

Not quite, although in the SANFL's lifespan, you could say that. 1900.

And round 1 1995, on a technicality.

And finished 7th in 1985. Which would be a more relevant yardstick to what's happening now as that was later in the year.

if (& i doubt it) port did finish bottom i'd suggest they'd go down as the best bottom side of all time

Port won't win the spoon. With West and South in the competition, either one of these sides is destined to take the spoon home...

I actually want Port to knock off the Dogs today...it won't happen, but a loss to Centrals would set up a bit of a gap between top 2 and 3rd place on the table...

Currently West holds that mantle after a 7-win spoon season in the seventies, right? Spelly?
