To summarise as briefly as possible:

Scrappy, poor delivery into the forward line by both sides.

Shocking kicking for goals by Hargraves - seemed to be stabbing at the ball most of the day.

Umpiring was confusing to say the least.

Thought Port dominated across half back for most of the first half and part of the third quarter.

Too many options up forward for Sturt, Hargraves and Ah Chee tried hard but once the ball hit the ground, Sturt were better in their forward line compared to Port.

Sturt are great. That's why the Comp hate. We continue to improve as we reach our ultimum, the 2008 Holy Grail. :)

Its posts like that, that result in non Sturt supporters hoping that if they (Sturt) make the grand final, the opposition wins.

No I don't subscirbe to that - in part I must say.

Everyone who is a regular on this forum knows exactly what a comlplete "twat" SP is and how much he makes the other decent Sturt supporters cringe with the absolute crap that he continually comes up with. Fear not, if you have had the displeasure to see him in public or good forbid meet him up close then you will agree with all my sentiments!

A side that can't kick straight.

Never has poor goal-kicking cost a team so much. We'd be in the 5 if we picked the accuracy up 10%.

As I mentioned in another thread, Sturt played at about 70% of their best, and still managed to easily overcome the Magpies. I thought Port were very disappointing, and had it not been for the efforts of Summerton, Dolling, Rocky Clayton and to a much lesser extent, Ah Chee, the scoreline could've been much worse.

No footage of the Rocky Clayton punch, but I'm 100% sure the umpire did report him. ABC cameras were elsewhere in the push and shove.

Sturt were impressive in that they won the game without the usual suspects (Sheedy, Crane, Nelson, Whiteman, Feast, Chambers) dominating. Each got plenty of it, but I don't think they had a huge say in the double blues winning this one).

I thought McLeay was useful, and enjoyed watching Sharples ply his trade. I think he has all the attributes to tick a few boxes for AFL recruiting scouts. Coad looks very handy. Surely Deluca is worthy of being included in Sturt's league side???

Perrie played very well also. He was a solid lead-up player, kicking accurately on goal, but also bringing a lot of his mates into the game when he had pushed further up the ground. Feast started well around the ground, but his impact was restricted purely to ruck contests.

For Port I thought Summerton was clearly their best, and while his stats rival those of someone like Bailey, who gets 40 useless stats per week, Summerton's work in and under and creating some very good forward thrusts* was brilliant. He didn't have enough mates to help him on the day. Lokan did very well on Chambers, until Chambo awoke in the second half to have a much bigger impact. He's that sort of player Chambo...you can feel you've had him beaten, and he still kicks his couple. Having said that, as other posters have alluded to, delivery to the forwards in both sides was not at its best in this contest.

Hargy kicked poorly and really let the side down, as had he kicked straight, given the closeness of the game for most of the match, the result could have been very different.

Double Blues still the team to beat, along with Centrals (TB's attempt to deflect the attention away from the Bay).

Big ups to the Sturt merchandise van at the weekend. I managed to snare the old man some fine Sturt products on sale...

I think merchandising in the SANFL could be much better than it is, but Sturt, Port, Glenelg, North (and I'm sure others) are doing better and better each year.

I just wish the Bays merchandise included brand new replica lace-up guernseys like Sturt have on sale...these would literally sell out in a day at the GFC.

Even in our glory days in the 1980's, we'd never say anything like this though:

"Port are great. That's why the Comp hate. We continue to improve as we reach our ultimum, the Holy Grail".

Although a few similar things may have been said at kindergarten though.
