State Game Crowd Campaign

Postby Squawk » Fri May 16, 2008 12:57 am

So we can get 12,000 or so on average to 4 minor round games....
And we got 20,000 to the four rivarlry round games and one team wasn't playing (the Panthers).
How many can we get to the State Game?

If everyone who normally goes to SANFL goes to the State Game, (in a week where no other SANFL games are programmed), we should be able to get 10,000+.

What can we do to encourage SANFL addicts and AFL followers to get along to the State Game?

eg could we get West End to subsidise ticket prices to stick it up the Vics?
could users from this site promote the State Game on other AFL forums and footy bulletin boards?

Bottom line is, can we get 15,000+ to a real game of State footy and stick the Vics for their crap exhibition games, and how can we best go about it?

We have 2 weeks.....

I'm going to give the State game as much respect as the selectors showed Norwood players.

Nil.

Who do you think should have been selected Topsy? Gallagher, perhaps... but really was anyone else from Norwood even in the ballpark?

The problem is that it is a fairly meaningless game - as Fatal said elsewhere, how much credibility can it have when players like Kenna, Alleway and Callinan swap teams each time we play Victoria? Plus quite a few others in our squad grew up in Victoria.

So I doubt the crowd will be much bigger than 2-3 thousand, (this was about what we got last time against WA, wasn't it?)

Proof that the average supporter much prefers going to the SANFL than these exhibition games.

Speak for yourself Ecky. I don't see it as South Oz v Vic so much as SANFL v VFL. The players lucky enough to wear the guernsey aren't representing the state so much as the league - and I'll happily cheer on any player, Vic, Croweater or other who dons the state jumper in battle with the VFL heathens!

So you think that a bloke who couldn't hold a full-forward not even in the SANFL squad of 30 to less than 5 goals in a losing effort should be the man to line up against Podsiadly?

But he did hold the state full forward to two, or one, goals against an avalanche of possession in round one.

Ben Warren remains his bitch.

Pick the Zorb.

Actually we got over 5,500 against WA in 2006. The last good weather game against Victoria in 2001 drew over 7,300.

Anything over 9000 would be sweet, anything over 10000 would be f*@#in' nuts.

Pfft, after Rudolph....

Good player Zorzi but there are a number of good players fighting for his spot and he is not as good IMO as Ah Chee, Hayes, Schell etc for the key defensive spot. And Sam Rudolph has been excellent this year for us you will find out next Friday night.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yeah, it's funny how some match-ups see one player well on top, but then put that player on another bloke and he looks hopeless.

Have you seen the size of the Big Pod (Podsiadly) Tassie ???

He would eat Rudolph up for breakfast and spit him out mate...

I reckon Zorzi would have been a good match up for him, but at this stage I reckon maybe Daniel Schell might be the option on the burley, tall Werribee Skipper. No disrespect to Sammy, I rate him and he has done good jobs on Chambo and others in the past, I just reckon Schelly will be able to match Pods, if not beat him, in arial contest. Either him or Corey Ahchee maybe ???

Maybe body on body, Pods would be too strong so we'll rely on having players drop back to help out. Andrew Hayes is great above his head, for his size, and may be able to chip in across the front of packs like he does so well for Centrals. I just think Sam Rudolph isn't exactly the biggest defender in the league and would struggle in the key defensive post. That said though, I would probably have room for him in a pocket maybe, BUT I'm not the state selectors...

Now Zorzi might have been a better option, he's pretty solid, but I just reckon he would get smashed in the air, hence the Norwood leader didn't make the squad. Breyy would have played a bit of footy on Pods over in the VFL and thought that based on that (and his ability, as proven on Chambers in Rnd 1) that Brett Zorzi would have AT LEAST made the initial training squad ???

The Vics have a pretty good line up, I've seen most of them play before and they go alright. of course we've all seen the former SANFL blokes, and up until this year (thanks ABC2, you bloody bastards) I used to stay up on weeknights and watch the VFL replays. Up until seeing their team I just assumed it will be SA by how much, now I'm not so sure but am certainly hanging to see the game, should be a great battle. Hopefully J.Gowans can make the final 22...

GO U DOGGIES & CROWEATERS...

Has there been ANY promotion or advertising for it?

With people complaining about no Red jumper getting around during this dream team debacle in the AFL, it could be the perfect time for that old passion to come out in a lot of people, i just can't say i've seen any promotion for it.....help yourselves out SANFL!
