I think the weather certainly will have an effect on crowd figures, plus some Doggies fans would possibly be assuming we will have a comfy win and may chose to stay at home, keeping warm and dry rather then go out in the wet... ???

That, and the fact that Dogs' attendances have been lower this season than in recent times...

Why is that?

Cause less people have been going

Very good, well done...

I think like most clubs, fatal, you do get the handful of bandwagoners that basically rock up for the big games and of course finals. I guess the other thing depends on the scheduling of our game times, with some people not attending as they play footy themselves, again as with all clubs.

I also think to a degree, some fence sitting fans (I know I sound like a broken down record, but again all clubs have these as well) have maybe thought we might not be as competitive this year, and as proven so far, other teams are starting to catch up, hence the somewhat evenness of this seasos comp thus far. That said though, true fans stick by their club through thinck and thin and of course, by no means am i saying that our team, or any for that matter, have a huge majority of supporters in this ilk.

Far from it, it is no doubt only a small minority of so called fans are like this but I know I'm going to attend ALL games this year after deciding to have a year off from playing myslef. Last year I only attended the Saturday night and odd Sunday game and I have some mates who aren't playoing this year as well but would rather go and watch their mates play in the local comps, not go to an SANFL game. Fatla, I hope that will somewhat answer your question, in part, I'm sure there are plenty of other factors that are influencing the amount of fans who have been attending Doggies game, and I guess once again, other teams as well.

Pretty disappointing if you think some are dropping off because you might not be as competitive this year on comparison to previous years. In fact , pathetic. Thats a real concern , considering I still reckon Centrals are the side to beat. They are not at full strength yet.

Ease up Oct, you can be slightly over the top at times mate, no need for the 'pathetic' comment...

You tell me then mate, if Sturt's attendances are down this year and if so, what are the reasons, you seem to be an expert ???

I just touched on the first couple that popped into my head. The competitiveness thing mat be somewhat reflective in the early part of the year but like I said earlier, come finals time, I'm sure our crowd numbers will increase dramatically, it is only round 7 don't forget. I could post on for hours on all the in depth reasons why Centrals crowd numbers are SLIGHTLY down. For example mate, the pressure of today's ecenomic status on the struggling working families who can hardly afford to put food on the table let alone go to the footy. Now this happens with most clubs (not the so much for the better off or richer fans from the Eastern suburbs who follow their local clubs) but I think this is more previlant with a fair majority of Northern Suburbs families. That sounds somewhat stereotypical I know, but i know people in this exact position who live out that way and don't go as they just simply can't afford it.

Anyway, I look forward to what your reasons would be or are for Sturts drop in numbers (if possible, don't have the figures)

I guess I have to give you some credit mate, I appreciate that you still rate us as the team to beat but I tend to disagree with you somewhat.

I thought I read a couple of weeks ago that our attendances were slightly up on last year. Perhaps we should confirm this one way or another before WW3 commences?

Ease up and slightly over the top you reckon. Go back and read some of your comments mate . I wasn't having ago at Centrals mate I was just commenting on your comments . You were the one that said you thought they have dropped off because you think they may not be as competitive, ease up yourself. I didn't mention anything about Sturts crowd numbers , but if yopu go and research them I reckon you'll find there up but I am not sure.

Yes you are stereotyping and going a bit over top here Phil . I am not from the Eastern suburbs. I am sure there are some who can't afford it and I really understand that point .

What will happen to your fans if you do drop off in years to come. I dont think pathetic id over the top I think its accurate IF THAT IS A REASON for your decline, like you said .

Quite possibly the home attendances are, however I was basing my comments on anecdotal evidence (some of which came from Dogs fans) that the away crowd in particular is far lower than in recent years - the game at the Bay being a case in point...

Someone (I think PhilH) posted average crowds for each club, home and away games combined and we sat pretty high on the list. I do agree about the bay game, we had a disappointing turn out for that one. I think we have had good representation at other away games this year though.

I also agree with you on umbrellas, menace to football crowds and should be banned at all SANFL grounds just as they are at Footy Park.

She alone would be worth the price of admission, though the question may have to be asked - is that rain or Pram Lady 'talking'?

After missing the last two Centrals games through work (and I learnt tonight I get penalty rates for working over 10 hours in 1 shift YAY), I can't wait for Saturday to be back out at the football. Wild horses couldn't stop me from being at Broadspectrum on Saturday.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Very lucky. Westies struggle getting a crowd to Richmond - even on a fine and sunny day.

1678 vs Norwood Rd 2 – this was after a bye in round 1 so Rd 2 was the first chance to see the new coach and recruits competing for premiership points after all the pre-season hype. Great day weather wise too.
1662 vs Eagles Rd 5.

Another point I just realized is that we are now at Rd 8 and this is only Westies third home game for the year.

Even though it wasn't the best day weather wise, there should have been 2000 there because of the 50th anniversary of Richmond Oval.

We have only had one match at Woodville and one at Thebarton, too.
