Sam's funeral was held this morning in Reynella with estimates of around 1000 folk attending to pay their respects.

The South Adelaide Boys formed a Guard of Honour to farewell their mate.

RIP Sam

Just saw parts of the service at the church and the get together at Noarlunga Oval afterwards and it looked truly moving.
A SammyD foundation is being organised to assist athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds, I think we should organise something to raise funds towards that and perhaps a charity that Blakey's family nominate too.

Have just gotten home from the club after a long day - 1,500 at the service, according to the pastor at the Edge Church, and about 1,000 back at the club for hours afterwards.

While I personally am an athiest I would like to thank Steve Webster, John Chumes and all at the Edge Church at Old Reynella for the support that they have given the family, friends and team mates of the late Sam Davis. Thanks also go to the SANFL, SAFC and other clubs for organising the availability of grief counsellors and for such a strong show of support and for Sam's family.

As Wedgie said above a foundation is to be established to benefit young people and athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds and while the details have yet to be finalised I think that this will be a wonderful legacy from this tragic event.

I saw snippets of it on the (Ch7?) news. The young kid who spoke (described with a caption as "family friend") just cut me up.
