NORWOOD’S JOSH DONOHUE WINS ROUND 7

COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION

Josh Donohue from the Norwood Football Club has been named the Round Seven Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

Playing in just his 10th League game, Josh kicked a match winning 6 goals and was voted best on ground in the Redlegs 22 point win over the Port Adelaide Magpies on Friday night at Coopers Stadium.

Playing across half-forward in front of a 7,652 strong crowd at the League’s Rivalry Round clash, Josh accumulated 16 possessions including 9 kicks, 6 handballs, 4 marks and kicked 6 goals without a miss.

Making his League debut back in Round 8 last year against the Port Adelaide Magpies at Alberton Oval, Donohue played a total of 5 League matches in season 2007. Based on current form, he looks set to surpass this in season 2008.

Promoted through the junior ranks at Norwood, Josh is a small goal kicking forward at just 175cms, but is renowned for taking a big grab for his size.

Donohue is Norwood’s first Coca-Cola Star Search nominee this season.

Joshy!!! Woohoo ... Champion young lad (as most of the kids coming through are, no doubt, at all clubs).

Has hard work as one of the vital imgredients to his game and I'm stoked for him with the recognition he's receiving with this.

A great effort from JD on Friday night.

I'm not suggesting they are exactly the same, but Josh is similar to Greg Turbill when he first appeared on the scene. Good goal sense, sharp around the packs, hard at the ball, and not afraid to attack the ball in the air against much taller opponents. If he turns out to be anywhere near as good as Turbs, Norwood will be very pleased indeed.

JD is shy, small sized player but he has a huge heart - he may be unlikely to grow much bigger in physical stature but he will certainly continue to improve as a player who has plenty of guts and determination.

He's also leading the club goalkicking at the moment, too.

And unlike many previous years, Norwood has a few useful goalkickers on board this year-- the ever-reliable (but now injured) Vlatko, plus Taylor Walker and Jesse Aish. We should be able to cobble together some okay scores if all 4 of them are on the park most weeks.
