Port's draw

Postby Rik E Boy » Tue May 06, 2008 2:24 pm

It's not often I say this but you blokes were given a big 5hitburger to eat in the form of the 2008 fixture. You had a tough old start to the season which has seen you start the season off on the back foot. You get your year back on track and then who do you play?

Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong. This is the worst fixture I've ever seen in my three decades of watching football. Port have been dudded by the AFL this year.

regards,

So they should be. No sympathy. Anything to stop the scum from being in with a chance to win more flags.
Of course, I can laugh, my team does get a bit of an easier ride.

ohhhhh harsh.

How's this one:

It's not our fault the AFL needs the dollars our MCG games bring to the coffers in order to prop up its drive to the Eastern states, while still keeping the struggling Melbourne clubs afloat at the same time.

Not sure I believe it, but it'll set the cat among the pigeons nonetheless.

You admitted it was an "easier ride" yourself ;)

Anyway, my post was in jest, and i don't want to turn this into a Port/Collingwood abuse thread lol, although mind you, referring to Port as "scum" on here could be seen as going against the POWER BOARD guidelines, and classed as trolling 8)

Yes, sorry GWW - I did need to add lots of smilies after my post. Also wasn't aware I was on the Power Board (I use the view new posts feature, rather than running through each forum).

I actually do agree with REB that it's a pretty tough draw for the Power.

At first glance it does look bad, although it could also work in their favour.

I reckon they'll win at least one of the next 3, and could well hit the finals with a string of successive victories under their arm.

No we've got it all wrong about Port's draw

I raised this last season* and apparently it's nothing to do with anything you can only play the teams you were drawn

It has NO impact on where a team finishes ..... I learned this after being told repeatedly by Port supporters so it must be true

* last season Port played the bottom 4 teams TWICE ...... G'day Booney ... :D
In between signatures .....

Port's draw isn't too bad, they only play sides that came above them on the 2007 premiership table twice!!

Geelong have got an even cushier draw.

I dont care that we play these teams twice, but I dont understand why it has to be in such a ridiculous manner. Playing Sydney twice in 8 weeks...why does it have to be that way? Why do we have to play certain teams twice before we meet other teams? We play Collingwood and Melbourne once....and they are in rounds 20 and 21.

Its just the AFL trying to be fancy for fancy sake.

Usually one team each season gets stiffed by the draw, I guess it is Port's turn in 2008...
This happens to be the worst that I have seen yet though.

It would be fairer if certain teams (ie Collingwood, Essendon) occasionaly got a draw where they don't play 85% of their season in Melbourne!

If Port won one or both of their games against Sydney, you wouldn't be complaining. Typical Port Supporters
