Un fortunately the Australian judicial system quite often dosnt support the victim(s).
He will blame his childhood up bringing, a Father who never kicked the footy with him and being called fat at school for his selfish act.
Will probably never see the inside of a cell, maybe a week at the Davis house would be a suitable punishment?

Very sad day for the family, friends, loved ones & the South Adelaide Football Club.
A young man that had the world at his feet, who's life cut short far too early.
Sincere condolences to his family.
I didn't know Sam but his love for life, particularly his footy stood out, alot of potential at such a young age.
A well respected young man, who's opportunity to fullfill his dream of playing league football, taken away by a thug that has no direction in life & should ROT IN HELL.
R.I.P Sam Davis.

What a waste! I can't even begin to imagine how Sams mother and father are feeling. I have a very young son and such incidences scare and worry the hell out of me. What do i tell my son? - "you back up your mates", "Get in there and stop the trouble" OR "mind your own business", "stay out of it".
Combine young adults, a party, a gatecrasher and probably alcohol and we don't know how our children will react. Trouble makers thou need to be taught harsh lessons!
How are 'the thugs' parents feeling? At least they get to deal with their son face to face. I can only hope my son is as well liked as Sam is but I pray to god I do not loose him the same way!

Will there be a minute of silence at this weeks games for Sam, i hope so. Maybe a minute of appreciation where the crowd claps for a minute like they do in the English Premier League would more be in order.
A very promising player of our great game has been taken away and i think taking a minute out of our lives to think about this poor lad is the least we can do.

i agree with everyones sentiments & who wouln't ? but these 'incidents' are happening more & more & if we had the death penalty would that decrease these & other problems in society ?

in general, fwiw i'm all for the death penalty & if a person(s) are 100% proven guilty of murder etc i'd be happy to put the noose around the neck etc
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Crime rates in western countries with the death penalty don't seem to deter these idiots and something such as this would not attract it in any event - manslaughter will only ever be a gaol sentence.

Hope nobody will take offence but might I suggest starting a seperate thread about criminal justice so that we don't stray from the original and very sad purpose of this one.

Here here - but I think we could do better and have an appropriate reflection at the state game. Bigger stage, where players represent the whole competition playing at the ultimate level - for their state.

Absolute tragedy and a complete and utter senseless waste of life.

If anything positive is to be gained from this terrible news perhaps it is that parents of teenage boys everywhere should take this opportunity to talk with them about how to be aware of situations that lead to this type of mindless thuggery, and how to prevent incidents like this from occuring to them.

btw - I'm not sure I share everyone's views about more prisons or capital punishment though. There are societal factors at play here that don't go away, no matter how many jails or gallows are built, and while I do agree that parenting does play a part you can't hold them accountable for every action of their children. I'm sure the parents of the culprit are suffering too - albeit in a different way, and at least they still have their son.

Deepest condolonces to Sam's family and all his friends and team-mates.

Here, here JAS.I think the replies in this thread have strayed from the initial intention and should be returned to the topic at hand. I am particularly offended by the second last post from whufc.

Sam Davis' family will never again know the joy of having their son talk to them, hug them and tell them that he loves them. This is the overwhelming tragedy and a lesson to us all that we should live every day to the max.

You can never hug your kids too much !!

Sincerest sympathy to the Davis Family ,SAFC and Happy Valley FC.

Just read this for the first time and followed the link to the advertiser site.
I didn't know SAm,,, but I certainly know his parents although haven't seen them for around 10 years, but Neil and Nat are 2 really nice people who wouldn't harm anyone.

So sorry to hear of the bad news Neil & Nat, no-one deserves what has happened to you or your special son.

A good life nipped in the bud.
Love, friendships, achievements, sorrow unknown.
If this can happen we all must be mortal.
God takes those he loves most young.
