stan wrote:The eagles second term was shite, worst football I've seen from them in ages, but still I thought Kennedy was good last night. The eagles really have something with him there. It will be a long season for eagles, but I think the future will be ok. As with Lynch, McKinely and Kennedy in the forward line it actually looks decent. Midfield, well with Cousins and Judd gone the hole is huge, but its now time for Priddis, Selwood, Kerr, Flecter and Masten to step up into those roles.

I think that the Eagles would be better off without Lynch up forward. The season is a write off for them and it would allow them to play the future forward line with McKinley and Kennedy in key positions, Ebert or MacNamara in a pocket, plus Chad Jones getting plenty of game time.

That a potential forward line of the future. As the Hawks are showing what can be done with young key forwards.

Was happy with the win, although the drop in intensity in the third was a worry. Glad the blokes stood up in the last when the WCE got to within a kick (or close to it). Bower & Grigg stepped up from that point, and a couple of moments of Judd brilliance steadied the ship, and off we went again.

Carrots picked up a 5hitload of ball, but burnt most of it, though Murphs did some good things as did Juddy. Steveo & Scotland had a good game.

We got smashed in the rucks yet, came out just about even in the clearances, which was a positive...

WCE are in for a long year, if Carlton can beat 'em by 7 goals at home....

Surprised to see Fev in the best players in todays paper, didnt do that much from where I was sitting, although that goal from the pocket after took the mark, played on and snapped from 35m was GREAT..then he lets himself and everyone else down with that stupid act of striking Selwood.

I reckon he's great for Footy though, I know he has a few brain explosions, but love him or hate him, he's a character.

Amazing the difference between the 42 touches that Carrazo had last night and the 39 touches that Mitchell had today. Mitchell constructed so much positive play for the Hawks today from half back and the centre.

From where I sat today, the Hawks showed that they are a geniune high quality side, especially with their answer of a 10 goal last quarter to the challenge of the Pies early in the last quarter.
Plenty of positives came out of the game today for Hawthorn
- The Big 3 forwards (Franklin 6, Roughead 6, Williams 5) played well, but what was great they all came into the game when the matchup/situation suited them
- Mitchell continued great form (he'd have at least ten Brownlow Votes) with equal career high 39 disposals, and quality disposals not like the 42 of Carrazo last night
- Another good defensive effort (Brown vs Medhurst- 8 disposals, 1 goal, Croad vs Cloke- 6 disposals, no score)
- Ruck performance of Taylor (3 disposals, 21 hitouts) and Campbell (10 disposals, 7 marks, 21 hitouts, 1 goal) vs Fraser (9 disposals, 1 mark, 15 hitouts) and Wood (8 disposals, 2 marks, 11 hitouts)
Obviously the negatives are the injuries
- Hodge with a hamstring (3-4 weeks)
- Dew spent the last quarter on the bench with ice on hand/wrist

How good is Roughead? Everyone talks about Franklin and rightfully so, but Roughie is an absolute star! Another lazy 6 goals today, he has the best contested mark in the league, bar none.

I expected BIG things from Wood this year but he has failed to deliver on the expectations. Adelaide's Griffin is a better player IMO.

He is playing great and is able to step in and be the one on one forward as he was today in the second quarter when the matchup and game situation suited him and do it well..24 goals for the season are a testiment to that

The Hawks are on fire at the moment and if they played the Cats next round they'd probably win by five or six goals. Geelong on the other hand aren't putting it all toghether at the moment and are rotating players such as Gamble, Mumford, West and Taylor into the team at the same time. I'm not all that unhappy about how things are going. It's not much use peaking at this stage of the season. It will be interesting to see if the Hawks can maintain this red hot form for another four months. It's not impossible of course as Geelong did it last year.

If the Hawks CAN maintain the rage and Geelong get Egan and Otto up and firing and we regain our best form, the grannie could be as good as the last epic battle between these two arch rivals. Last year was one to order...a record flogging of Port. If I got a second order in it would be for a six point win over the Hawks in the Grand Final. 8)

2008 Grand Final: Hawthorn vs Geelong

As said earlier, Hawthorn are in red hot form and will probably hammer Port in a couple of weeks. Geelong on the other hand are playing below par and are just doing enough to get the points. I still think Geelong are the best in the competition but Hawthorn are very close in second.

I was also impressed with Stewie Dew, thought he played very well but not at his peak........

Geelong just get the job done it is as simple as that we win our supporters are happy No Ablett today and we still rolled them in the last quarter. Geelong seem to be toying with sides and then when it all comes down to the roll of the day foot to the floor and see ya later seems to be the cats style. One feels this may bring them unstuck but on the other hand it might not also. Lets see how many cats are in the Hall of Fame game.
