This concept is very very difficult as the AFL find out. Maybe we should consider a stand alone " rivalry match " and really promoted that instead of the whole round. Make the game a Friday or Sunday match (or Public Holiday game ) Ensure all teams have at lesat 1 rivalry match at home. There would be teams that play in 2 or 3 rivalry matches but they wont have home ground advantage . How it is now the rivalry round always consists of non rivals . With all due respects to some clubs but they dont have great rivals. Eagles & Centrals has developed over the last 10 years ( as an example )These games are about getting maximum attendance . I think North V South last year , what rivalry have they got ??? West V Sturt this year ??

Unfortunately it's always going to be difficult when 8 teams share the same arch rival

Do they ? Says who ?

Here are some combos for you.

South v Glenelg
Norwood Glenelg
Norwood Port ( Some would say on overrated rival)
Port Glenelg
Sturt Port
West Port
Eagles Centals
Centrals Port
North Glenelg
Sturt Norwood
Port Glenelg
Sturt Glenelg
North Centrals

If some sides were smart they would start to make traditions, EG Soth played Sturt at Encounter Bay a few yers back at Easter , why not make that a regular fixture (doesnt have to be Sturt just the same side every year ) West played Port years ago at Richmond on Adelaide Cup Day ( in May ) so why not keep that . I may have missed some from above , but I must say this is common sense yet it is not happenning.

Load of crap you reckon ? I dont think so.

If promoted right, and with the anticipated mass boycott of the VFL Dream Game farce, there should be some great attendances next weekend.

Not sure where I said it was a load of crap, but you've pretty much just mirrored what I said by naming 6 clubs having a rivalry with PORT, which was the point I was trying to make.

Sure there are other rivalries out there, but I'd suggest that for most clubs, over and above the 2 points on offer, beating Port is always special.

Tell me who suggests Norwood v Port is overrated btw?

I didnt say your comments were a load of crap, It was a comment to provoke comments and ideas.

Brod , give us some substance in your comments mate dont hang on coat tails of others , thats the soft option but one that seems to a comon one.

Constance Perm , I think its a tradition but surely you you would say its not that strong. It is overrated , go and check out some crowd figures between the sides and whilst you doing it compare Sturt V Borwood and Sturt v Port.

Glenelg V Norwood
Central v Woodville
West Torrens V North Adel

We need a 10th team

Being pretty close to the club I can tell you that the rivalry is ultra strong ... Living in the Western suburbs nearly all my mates are Port supporters and it seems pretty strong amongst them.

That doesn't mean that Sturt, Glenelg, Central (pretty much every team) wouldn't view Port as perhaps their fiercest rival either, which is what I've been trying to say all along.
