Based on what I saw on the telly and read in the papers from the weekend, I have changed my mind...

I think Trevor Cranston is probably slightly in front of Brad Dabrowski at this point. Both the papers and a few Bays supporters on here are praising the big mans efforts in the middle for the Gliderol Garage Door Glenelgians and I reckon from what I saw of the Big Polish Dabrowski on the ABC game with West v Eagles on the weekend, it has to be Big Cranny getting the nod for mine.

Dabrowski may be in the inital playing sqaud as the stocks of eligable SANFL ruckman is thin, but I reckon it should be Parry and Cranston to tackle the Vics at Adelaide Oval. What do others think, are there better cases for the likes of S.Feast, J.Mackenzie, B.O'Hara, K.Tyrell, Burford ???

I reckon Blues fans may disagree on this one... Andrew Whiteman is not nicknamed Madness for nothing.

True i rate Whiteman as an absolute gun and would have him in the Doggies line up every week BUT i tend to think in his Madness he gives away a few to many free kicks, i don't have any stats to back me up but using my recall of games i have seen him play.
Dutschke is only 22-23 once his body gets even stronger will hurt alot of people (fairly).

Pfft

I see your Dutschke and Whiteman and raise you - Ben Mules......

Fair Dinkum if he aint named on the HBF for the state side or at least on the bench there is something seriously wrong with our selectors.

I'm not saying Dutscke and Whiteman aren't tough far from it I seriously rate both blokes in that area. However I seriously rate Mules as he does so many hard things off the ball (tackles shepherds smothers) that set us up with goal scoring opportunities and his courage when going for it is 2nd to none.

yeah forgot about Mules and agree he would probably be ahead of them at this stage of there respective careers.
The reason i probably forgot about him and i am being serious is the lack of success Glenelg have had in Mules time he hasn't had the chance to star on the big stage.
Do you think he could slip under the selectors radars for this reason.

No dis-respect taken WHUFC and success particularly finals success ear marks you as a big game player and state games are big games. Our lack of participation in those games makes it harder for our blokes to put their names in front of selectors. I think you are right as Ben is so un-obtrusive in what he does that I don't think he will get the nod for the squad as he is overshadowed week in week out by flashier players.

However he is a real barameter and such as great leader for us he sets the example of what you should do on the field to be successful - the little things. The other thing about him is that he is deceptively quick and his ability to close down on a player to spoil and or get the loose ball is quite good. Two or three times a game he does that.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Very very quick remember him out running Sladey to the ball last season by about 5 metres over a 25 meter sprint and i consider Slade no slouch in the running stakes.

Hey All,

CD mentioned above and on his Eagles News #5 post that WWT have got 4 players named in the State Squad this year ???

Has anyone else seen the initial squad release and if so, can they shed some light on who the representatives are from each club, of course I'm interested in seeing who's in it from Centrals (and the other teams, naturally)

Maybe they could post it o here if they have this information at hand., that way we can all debate further who should and shouldn't be in it and for what reason etc, etc...

Cheers,

Big Phil...

Clubs contacted yesterday with news that letters to players this week with their invitation - now waiting to see if all accept - then public announcement will be made.

I'm sure our 4 boys will be delighted to be part of the squad but i'll wait til i see them before announcing - should be out officially this weekend i'd reckon.

The Squad of 29 will be announced later this week once the clubs have got back to the selectors concerning availability etc.
- Some players for 1 reason or other might not be available.

North have 2 reps in the squad.

Do you know who thise 2 North reps are G ???

My guess would be Alleway (for sure) and mabe Younie ??? Would have said Ladhams but he now has that bad injury so wouldn't be considered.

My tips from Centrals are: Thomas, C.Gowans, J.Gowans, Slade, Schell, Callinan, Sibenaler and maybe Cochrane

Look forward to seeing the initial squad released later in the week, I think there should be at least one representative from each club with maybe Westies pinning their only hope of Cupido ???

Alleway / Allan would have to be the two. I think Ladhams wiould have got a gig if not for his neck injury.

Hey Drebin,

You're probably right there mate. I said Alleway (has to be a certain) and Younie, who I'm sure even Roosters supporters would admit has not been at his absolute best of late and I guess state selectors will obviously look at current form, some may have reputations on their side.

I did briefly forget about Jimmy Allan, not because I don't rate him, it's just I kind of forgot he is now eligable for selection after playing his first year last year and once again, I'm sure you'll agree as well, he has slightly struggled to find his best form also, but he has been dealing with a niggling hip injury hasn't he ???

Those two would be definates for sure and I totally agree about Ladhams, I said the same myself.

Great to see Sturt appropriately represented.

IMHO Craney's the best player in the SANFL at the minute. :)

I reckon his own team mate, in Chambers, is probably a tad ahead of him at the moment Sturtpeter...

Crane wins plenty of the ball and has pace to burn but Chambo is almost winning games off his own boot, and on most occasions is kicking 1/2 to 3/4 of his teams score, even when they do lose the game

I reckon there is also probably a few other arguments from other clubs for that title,
