Serious Post

Sturt fans do you think Rick will back his boys (and the great form they are in) to beat us with their current game plan or will he go defensive like he did in the Elimination Final to get numbers behind the ball to stop our run?

It was chalk and cheese the tactics Sturt had at the Bay in Rd 20 (or was it 21) last year and in the Elimination Final where the flood was was on.

Personally I think he will and should back his boys as you are playing great footy at the moment. Thoughts?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Tas, I think we were so riddled with injury towards the end of last season, having to play young kids and some others coming back from injury too soon, that he may have thought he had to go defensive. This weekend however we are more or less at full strength and I think Rick would see it as a great chance to go head to head with his players and game plan against Glenelg to see where we're at. Sooner or later we're going to be challenged big time and have to really fight for a win, then the club will have a better idea about players and game plan.

i dont subscribe to the injury/defensive tactics theory simply for the fact that the week before sturt were annhilating (spelling) north for 2 and a bit qtrs - and that wasnt defensive footy mcgowan knew sturt couldnt beat us in the elim unless they were ultra defensive. Different story this week me thinks, surely rick has to back his boys in with their scintilating form at the mo.

Rick's an all-rounder.

Attack's the best form of defence.

their biggest hoodoo is the adelaide oval because since the resurfacing sturt have not won one game there & as we all know to make the grand final you have to win at least one game at the adelaide oval to make it (the grand final) & that is sturts hoodoo & in a couple of those games they lost they were short priced favourites

I bloody well hope he did! I'm not a fan of the 'away' guernsey at all...

Sturt are a better team now than the most recent time they played at Adelaide Oval. I wouldn't think the Adelaide Oval would hinder Sturt all that much, if at all.

Interesting points but this is Glenelgs biggest test. I reckon most people now accept that Sturt will finish top 3 barring a complete injury disaster. I am not making excuses and I am serious , Sturt were very under strength in their last 5 games last year. Now the depth is the best of any SANFL club. I am not certain about the flooding tatics in the Elim final we were winning most of the day ? But we all see it differently and on most days ALL SIDES FLOOD. Watch your team I bet they do it. ( mind you we didnt have any reason to flood last week I think we just left the withches hats in place !!)

Anyway i hope its a great game and I reckon the bays will be right around the mark this year . Centrals & North will get better no doubt about that . ( although some Roosters on here may not agree but they ceratinly have the talent) . Its a pity it will be wet , cos if the bays are tall in the forwards that wont help them and I reckon Perrie & Herring will swap off the bench. If the bays play 4 talls and Sturt win it will not give a true indication of how good the bays are.

a sign of a strong league side is the make up of your reserves team. Our ressies could take most league sides right now.

having said that, the bays always scare of recent times. going to be a tough one.
