I copped the 'here's a link to our stock standard response because we don't give a shit what viewers think' reply.

I think we may have to start nude protests at Collinswood

In all seriousness it's a pathetic copout from the ABC - and as for the two distinctive channels crap, it's either stuff that used to be on ABC1 (eg The Bill on Tuesday night's has moved from ABC1 to ABC2), or still repeats (eg Mediawatch is still repeated like anything on ABC2).

I think I will also be writing to my local federal MP - Nick Champion (who advertises at Hamra Homes Oval), as well as Kate Ellis.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

I have had 2 replys that look to be written but a human but both say much the same thing. I guess emailing them every few days got to them in the end.

Thank you for your email regarding the ABC2 football coverage, which hasbeen forwarded to me for response. I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy that ABC2 no longer screens the state-and territory-based football competitions. You are correct in observingthat currently ABC2 closes most nights at around the time that thefootball replays were broadcast (this is not only in Canberra - ABC2broadcasts are the same across the country). I do appreciate that thismust add to your frustration. The closing time and the decision toterminate the football replays are actually two separate issues. At thepresent time the ABC's broadcast division does not have the resources tomanage two 24hr (or near 24hr) channels. ABC2 does intend to extend itsbroadcast hours over the course of the year. With regards to the state-and territory-based football competitions, ABC2 has advised that evenwhen resources are available to broadcast for longer hours, thismaterial will not be shown. This is based on the decision to onlybroadcast material that has a nationwide audience. I can empathise with the disappointment that you and others are feeling, and I appreciate that you may remain unsatisfied with this response. Please be assured that your comments have been brought to the attentionof the relevant ABC staff.

Yours sincerely

this is the other reply i got this week.

Thank you for your email regarding the ABC's decision not to broadcast state and territory level Australian Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union matches on ABC2. I am sorry to read that you are disappointed by this decision. The ABC has received considerable feedback about this decision and has published a response to viewer correspondence here:http://www.abc.net.au/contact/s2206223.htm ABC2 does intend to extend its broadcast hours over the course of the year. However, ABC2 has advised, at this stage there are no plans to reinstate the state and territory based football competitions. Please be assured that your interest in seeing state based football on ABC2 has been noted and conveyed to ABC TV management so that they are aware of your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to write.

Kate Ellis is a Bays fan so maybe she might be the best audience to get...

Maybe try ringing them. The more calls to these people the better. They cant shoot off a stock standard email. Challenge them on the spot , they will soon get annoyed with that. The names to contact as per previous comments are

Steve Georganas responded to me today - he has written as the member for Hindmarsh on behalf of his electorate to Senator Conroy, the minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

In his letter to the minister he states

"I am writing on behalf of all the residents within Hindmarsh who will be adversely affected by the decision of ABC2 to terminate the broadcast of state and territory level Australian Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union.

ABC2 provided a resource for all australians across the nation to watch and enjoy their team play on a delayed telecast. I do not support the decision by ABC to cut this programming.

Could you please look into this matter and advise me on the outcome."

Steve as my local MP has said he will forward to me the minister's response to him.

Will be interesting to see what happens - the ministers office yet to respomd to my direct email nor has Kate Ellis or any of the opposition spokespersons. So top marks to Steve Georganas.

Please if you feel strongly let the pollies know and inform ABC of that action

ABC has not responded to my email to them which I cc'd to the pollies.

I had a look at the link with the response the ABC posted as to why they canned the footy replays...

And I quote...

Code: Select all
The repeat broadcast of these matches has concluded in keeping with the new ABC2 schedule, which aims to cater to wider national audiences.

That is one of the most contradictive statements I have ever read. Isn't this EXACTLY what the late night replays did ??? You know cater to a wider and NATIONAL audience. Hello, how bloody pathetic is their incompetent excuse... Surely, with todays ease of technology, someone can just press a button and away we go, it shouldn't be that hard ?

I should put this response on the topic I started up: "I HATE IT WHEN THE MEDIA GET IT WRONG..."

Not only was the decision to dump the replays it in the first place VERY wrong, their response for the choice made is even worse...

The missus is stoked about the decision though, she's now happy that I come to bed before midnight and not at 2am. Started taping them in the end, best of both worlds that way. Well not any more, because of the BLOODY ABC2... !!!

A number of the responses back from the ABC reps (Bourke & Graves) have a comment to the effect of "we'll pass your concerns on to/we have conveyed your comments on to ABC TV management". Well just who are the people that comprise this ABC TV Management?

I'm awaiting a response from my written complaint but when I get back the stock standard response I will be corresponding back to ask the names and contact details of the people who make up this collective of ABC TV Management. I suggest other forumites do the same and then fire-off correspondence to these people. If you don't get a satisfactory response from that then I suggest you write to Mark Scott who is the MD of the ABC.

During the week on ABC Radio 774 Melbourne, they had Mark Scott on as part of a weekly segment about the media where movers & shakers in the Australian media come in for a chat with John Faine and take talkback calls as well. I was on hold to talk to him about the decision to drop the national replays of SANFL & WAFL matches on ABC2 but unfortunately didn't get the chance to speak to him. I would urge forumites who listen to ABC radio, no matter what state you live in, to keep an ear out for any segments where Mark Scott may be appearing and get on the phone to raise this issue.

I would urge you to encourage/twist arms/force friends and family to make their feelings be known as well. Take a national perspective when corresponding because it's just not people in SA who are missing out it's also those of us living interstate who need our fix of the competition that we've grown up with and love. Keep at it everyone!

After getting the stock standard reply i wrote back and asked for the email of managment and got this reply today. Looks like i will have to get the pen and paper out :D

Dear Peter
The online complaint form at http://abc.net.au/contact/complain.htm isthe best way to send emails through to the ABC. We don't provideinternal email addresses. If you do wish to write to a particularmanager you can indicate this in your email. Or if you want yourcorrespondence to go directly to a particular manager's office in thefirst instance, you may wish to write a letter. Postal addresses can befound here: http://abc.net.au/contact/abc_offices.htm.
I can assure you that relevant ABC staff are aware of the audiencefeedback on this issue - right up to the Managing Director. However, Iencourage you to write again if you feel you have further information orquestions to add on the subject.
Thanks again for writing to the ABC.

Yours sincerely
