Just a question, has Harris Signed yet?

Just wondering, since he was pretty much the only player that actually earned his spot in the team.

not as of yet. He is sticking to his guns and asking for a 2 year deal. Weather he gets it or not is up to the Saint Peters old boys club that call the shots

Strange to think that this would be much of a sticking point?? Why would he not deserve some for of reward and security for his performances.

it is when there is a policy of one year deals for anyone other than the top tier player contracts which are around 90 to 100k per year.

one would think the bottom rung for all states including rookies would be the same. but for the middle contracts I don't know.


SA should be going all out for fringe NSW and other state players including talented ACT kids who nearly always end up in NSW.

Although I didn't agree with the way Marsh went about it but Dan Christian has been a reasonably good pick up

Could people please stop getting stuck into District cricket - it is not the problem!! If changes get made to it, it will not instantly solve the Redback situation, then where would you like to turn? Primary school competitions??

No-one is saying it will instantly solve the problems. That doesn't mean that changes shouldn't be made for the long term benefit of SA cricket.

The cream should be rising to the top regardless of whether there is 2 teams or 20 IMO

I tend to agree with BDP I am not sure the solution is that simple. Are they any studies on correlations between the performance of a representative side and the number of teams in the comp from which those players come from?

NSW look like they have 20 grade teams. Victoria have 18. SA has 13 .... the ratios seem about right to me am I missing something?

Perth has 16 and Hobart 8.


I think also some results are inflated a little bit for example Sturt's home ground is too small for A grade cricket and the Oval just down the road from you Hondo Glandore can get a bit tiny if playing on the edge of the pitch square. In recent seasons Woodville oval has seemed to have lost its lawn mower and the outfield has slowed considerably

And we've replaced Elliott with Klinger....
I mean, if Klinger couldn't make the Vic side when Elliott was there, then we're only getting an inferior player....
Having said that, I'll go out on a limb and predict he's our best batsman...

Awesome. We refuse to offer him a 2 year deal and now we will probably lose him. I don't blame him, having "8 consecutive one year deals" wouldn't be too good, you would constantly be worrying about the next contract. We should give him a 3 year deal at least.

No surprise Rogers isn't coming here either, if he wants to make the Aussie team then SA is not the place to be. The Vics just keep getting better too...

I doubt Klinger will be getting the type of salary that Elliott got though, so to that extent its not a big deal, Klinger will add to our (questionable!!) depth, and provide some experience, i dont have a problem with his recruitment.

Great that's all we need 2 players coming off CA contracts and now our best player has decided to go where the grass is greener.


I was speaking to a player manager currently involved negotiations for clients has said that there needs to be a major shake up of how Grade cricket is run. not necessarily cut and shut clubs to form new ones but with the current off field set ups of the clubs. Allegedly Qld club cricket coaches are paid 10K plus for their services and our 13 would struggle for a 1/4 of that figure for the season. Also he suggested that clubs are set aside funding for player salaries and spend it how they see fit. Maybe an increase of the Current SACA allowance could cover this

2007-08: 10 matches - 363 runs at 24.20, 37 wickets at 29.26 (great season no question)
Pre 2007-08: 16 matches - 377 runs at 14.49, 30 wickets at 46.55

Looks similar to one N Adcock this time last year? Average career then suddenly a good season. Or is he genuinely on an upward path now as he approaches 30.

Not trying to diss the guy ... just posing the question for the posters closer to the action than I .... is it the end of the world if he wants to chase some fun in the sun?

If SA had a battery of up and coming quality pacemen then the loss of Rhino would be nothin more than a blip, but F**K, Dizzy has gone, Tait (???in all respect???) what else does the state have. Yes he has not got the greatest career stats but we have to reward the success that he had in the past season. And Hondo if Adcock had had that season he would still lead the side out in the Pura Cup - he didnt - Harris did.
