All discussions to do with the SANFL

Staples must be left in the 21. He is a very hard worker and still runs hard in the last quarter which his opponents can't match.

Grocke has to be in the team somewhere. I would like to see him in the back pocket and relieving McKenzie at CHB when Macca is required on ball. Grocke gives flexibility and if one of the tall forwards is not firing he is a superb replacement. I watched the last quarter again last night and it was highlighted by Giuffreda's three terrible clangers, he has to be replaced.

Aerie's point about Treeby going onto the ball is good, apart from his ability to get the ball, last year he kicked a lot of opportunistic goals.
The next question is who plays on the wing, possibly Cody Hicks but preferrably Petrenko when he comes back from injury. I am told his aerobic capacity will be up to SANFL level when he comes back (lots of running at Crows) with only his touch a problem.

I agree with you re Staples he is a must in the forward line .He is young tall fit can take a big screamer and he can run all day.

Did you see any of the last quarter of the seconds Ferret Groeke was rucking .Could the eagles run three big man on and off the ball perhaps? But Roberts is too good as a second ruckman to get dropped.
Weather looking fine and dry Groeke could work as an extra up forward and run in the ruck or down back like you suggest .

Couch hasn't come up just yet he should be on a wing when he is up to league standard .Dont be to harsh on the VIC lads remember how many games did it take Jarrad to get used to the pace of SANFL footy.

Mackie should not be dropped yet either he is tough in and under player along the lines of a Cica or Jefferies or dare I say it a GOWANS .The type of player the eagles need more of .

It's very important game for both these clubs whoever wins is underway for the season and can push for top3 while the loser will be playing catch up for the rest of the season.

Gee you doggies fans have changed your tune .Wasn't that many years ago that you guys kept saying to could be last half way through the year and still finish top .
Looking back to 2006 the eagles lost round 1 to North round 2 to Glenelg and still won the flag!!

But I do agree with you when u say the year is not lost who ever doesn't win this game.

To clarify my point i think last year there was two stand out teams being Central and North while the rest were fighting out for the third spot. This season i think Sturt have moved up into that bracket and trying to catch Central, North and Sturt from 0-2 would be near on impossible especially for Glenelg who would still have the big 3 teams to play in their first round of games.
PLUS i dont believe anyone except Central are good enough to win the premiership from outside the top3 this season. Even then i doubt we could even do it.

I expect the Eagles to have to find room for Shirley....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I thought Giuffreda played well last week and would be a good match up on McConnell.

Shirley could be a handy in, as could Paul Stewart, who I wouldn't be surprised if he's dropped by the Power.

I think his problem is his height the eagles needed that extra tall down back .

Woodwt - check the last quarter, Giuffreda made three dreadful mistakes that cost us dearly. His dedication was great but the clangers were not good.

Hier still under done after preseason op. and a lay off due to indecision could be a bit risky.

Cannot believe Adam Grocke is not in the team, always puts in 100%.

We need a big effort from Fairclough this week.

Any reason why Grocke would not be in the Team Ferret ? The seconds look very tall IMHO.

In our premiership season 2006 we went 0-2 at start. So it wouldn't phase me. I would be disapointed but it wouldn't be the end of our season if it were to happen.

Played very well last week against North. Having said that though Hier is a more than handy replacement.

I was wondering that too mickyj. Groecke would be very handy at chf. Salter doesn't look comfortable there at all. Salts plays better when closer to goal as was seen in the 4th qtr last week.

Fuller wouldn't be guilty of playing his Port AFL listed players out of position thereby being able to hang onto them longer, now would he 8) First Paul Stewart in a back pocket, and now Salter at CHF..

Match ups GWW. Stewarts a backman, therefore will take a quality fwd.
Salter is a big lad & no-doubt will float between CHF & F/F, where would you have them?
Did you ever think of Salter drawing a decent backman off the last line of defence & maybe catching that bloke out of position across the h/fwd line?
He may be even trying to drag a player thats normally H/B down the last line where once again he could expose him.

Stewart struggled in the back pocket last year, plays quite a bit better across half back when he gets to run and attack a bit more. As for Salter, i think he's much better suited to a position deep in attack than across half forward.

I did say that one team would be in the firing line this week - Glenelg, and the other received it - Eagles. Because I knew Glenelg would react in this way this week and put us under pressure all day. At least the Reserves won...

This team aint working - if Schwarze is suspended, Passador will come back (9 goals in the Reserves suggests he is ready). We are badly needing Cica and Symmons in the midfield - Glenelg won 80% of all clearances today. The only consolation (even if you can call it that) is that this is how 2006 started off with losses to the same two teams at the same venues.
