I opened the new Melbourne history book that has just been released and found a glaring
error on the first photo I saw.
The photo is of David Neitz lining up for the national anthem in Round 1 2007 v St.Kilda.
The caption mentions that it is Melbourne's home game but the Demon players are wearing white shorts!
You're right spelly, books like these have errors and they will occur due to the volume of information they contain. But by isolating each stuff up, I find it hard to fathom how these things slip by the proof reader (if in fact, they are proof read).

On that, was great to see Santo from Melb Sports Books at the Parade last night (along with the others who helped out).

He certainly has them.

bought mine on saturday- great stuff

errors i have found are in the results for each club in 2007 the centrals page has centrals beating us (glenelg) by 23 points by the scores written and by 25 in the description- probably not an issue that will carry forward.

One error that will carry forward (hopefully we dont beat it this year) is our 1.4 (10) lowest scroe versus norwood happened in 2004 not 2003.

Guys, we deliberatly left errors in so that people like Big Phil would be happy. After all, if they had read the whole book and not found an error, I am sure they would have felt deprived!

I ordered my copy through the online link on this site last week and it was in my postal box this evening. So if people are wondering how long they will have to wait, it's just a few days.

Had a flip through, it's terrific, can't wait to spend more time reading it later this evening (instead of wasting time watching a certain disgraced former AFL player trying to justify his actions on tv).

Well done guys, and I hope it's an annual event.

Will have to get a bottle of something tasty and then I'll be in 'list' heaven...thank you.

Got mine today. Brilliant! Absolutely superb - apart from that idiot who wrote the article on North's early history.
Dare I say this is the best publication on the SANFL since the introduction of The Crows!!
Kudos Phil and Peter! But you realised that you've now set a very high standard for yourselves with future publications!! 8)

Word's getting around, they're still selling, I think we've sold over 60 through the website now!

Just remember, its not too late, just full price now but still well worth the money as can be seen by the kudos from people who have received their copies.

I thought the article on the early North years was compelling reading ... almost as if the guy who wrote it was old enough to be around back then

I certainly agree it is the best SANFL publication since 1990.

One of the most interesting features in the media guide was Peter Argent's look at retrospective Jack Oatey Medallists from 1945 to 1980. I was keen to see how it compared with a list I attempted several years ago, and I am proud to say I agreed with most of the selections.

There were a few where I selected different players, on some occasions it was because I tend to go for a member of a winning team as best on ground unless a member in the losing team has been outstanding.

The ones where I differed were:
1945 Ray Roberts (WT) - Peter had Max Nicholls (WT)
1948 Brian Burke (N) - Bob Hank (WT)
1961 Neil Kerley (WA) - Trevor Reu (WA)
1965 Geof Motley (PA) - Tony Clarkson (S)
1969 John Tilbrook (S) - Malcolm Greenslade (S)
1973 Peter Carey (G) - Bob Hammond (NA)

I'm quite happy to concede Nicholls, Reu and Greenslade, and possibly at ease with the selections of Clarkson and Hammond, but I have to disagree with Bob Hank in 1948.

All the reading I've done on the 1948 GF indicates there were several Torrens players rated ahead of Hank on the day, and Torrens lost the match by 57 points.

My nomination of Brian Burke was based on an article in the Mail on October 2 1948 stating:-

Brian Burke played such an important role in Norwood's win that today's Grand Final should go down in history as "Burke's game". There was hardly a minute when Burke was in the ruck that Torrens followers were able to get a touch of the ball. He knocked out to rovers with great accuracy and started most attacks

Jack Oatey was rated third best player for Norwood that day. Pity, it would have been nice to nominate Jack Oatey as a retrospective Jack Oatey Medallist :)

I'd be interested in any else's opinions.
