You know full well what happened running into the GF. An Eagles outfit running on one leg, a talentless Kangaroos outfit. Port supporters, and indeed the rest of the competition deep down inside, know that Port wasn't the most worthy opponent for the Cats. But credit to them, they made it to that final match with a side that had no right to get there. Of course, we all know what happened when they came up against a genuinely physical side; there was nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, they couldn't handle contested footy when it came right down to it, and they will continue to struggle with this (the whole foundation of footy) until they start blooding some hunters of the ball.

I'm so f****** sick of hearing this s***t argument. Port made the GF because they were one of the best 2 teams - PERIOD. The other teams didn't make the GF because they weren't bloody good enough. Yes Port got thumped, but they were clearly the next best placed side to be competing in the GF.

yep........thankyou linesman, thankyou ball boys....

Port were the second ranked side in attack last year and beat Geelong at Cat Park. The Kangaroos might have had an ordinary finals series but they did it without their key forward in Jones and even though they lack the depth of some clubs were a fully deserved top four side (who also managed to win at Cat Park) who managed to knock off Hawthorn fairly easily in the semi despite this. I reckon you are being a bit unfair. Remember there were 14 other clubs who weren't there on the big day and excpet for the granny, Port performed when it counted.

Just answer me this: Does the Power have a problem playing tough, contested football?

You state that Port gets "monstered" by the physical sides like Geelong, Sydney and Adelaide yet you expect Port to defeat the crows next showdown ?

Gee this is a funny thread....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yeah....EXCEPT FOR THE GRANNY. And what happened in the Granny? 119 points. 119 POINTS! I don't care what you say about making a grand final, if you get done by that ridiculous margin something is not right. It just shouldn't happen at all, let alone in a grand final. Really good sides don't get belted like that when it's all on the line. It's the same result whenever they get into that pressure cooker situation, they just do not respond to tough, physical football. If they want to go one better and actually win the flag they will have to blood some hunters of the ball or else they will just keep falling down at the hands of the same sides that play that type of game.

Most of you imply that there is no problem with your side's ability to play hard, contested football. You are the supporters so you must know your side better than me, surely the Power will easily account for an inexperienced Adelaide side then? Are you confident? All I know is, assuming there is no issue in this area, I fully expect Port to wipe the Crows quite easily.

I don't follow Port or the Crows.
I thought I'd read the AFL forums for a change and saw your statement that I quoted above.
I'm curious as to why you think a team that gets monstered by the crows style of play will lose to the same team in the showdown?

That's the whole point: I don't expect the Crows to win, though I believe they're capable of doing so, because the Crows play tough, contested footy so much better than Port. HOWEVER given that few to none of the supporters on here seem to think that Port is deficient in this area, I put my expectation on Port to quite easily wipe the Crows given how much of an "average side" the crows supposedly are, and given how Adelaide's contested style of play will not be any advantage as Port apparently aren't deficient in this area!

Actually until you guys can come up with anything of substance to convince me and the greater football public that Port doesn't have a problem in this area (because based on what we are seeing, they do), this argument has been won by me, by default.

Far out, it's only Round 2 and so far they've faced 2 of the last 3 premiers.

No doubt there's a question mark over their ability to perform against the physical close checking sides, but I'd be confident were I a Power fan that they'll sort that out ... IMHO Port will still be around at the business end this year.

Maybe so after discussion but you made the statement on the 1st post of this topic, so therefore no-one could've influenced your decision to state that Port get monstered by the crows style of play yet you think port will defeat them.

They obviously don't have a problem in that area according to you because you think they'll beat the crows.

Oh absolutely - their running game is very very good and may well win them enough games again to make the 8 (though some doubt would be starting to creep in especially if they don't get up in the Showdown and go 0-3), but I would like to know why no one is daring to say a word about this deficiency? It's quiet....too quiet imo.

Port have a habit of getting up off their knees when the going gets tough ... or is it when the half hour is up :? :?

Be vary wary of a Port outfit who will be stung by a poor performance today and needing to get it's season back on track next week.. While I agree that some of their players don't like the physical stuff, they have enough skill and pace to burn most teams when on... I just hope it's not next week
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined
