Angaston has picked up a couple of ex players who will assist alot - namely Pech and Harvey. They have lost Bascombe however. There has been a whisper about Kent Kingsley being seen around the traps? Anyone substantiate such claims?

Kent Kingsley has a clothing business in Melbourne and live over there, The word is that he may play a few game during the year. Bascombe is still at the panthers, you are right about Pech and Harvey, Byster is due back mid year (Knee Recon)

What about an explanation or some facts to back up your statement? Otherwise it is just... VERY AVERAGE.

Not sure of your back ground ballhog or your credentials but i have seen the BLG at its best and going back 10 years ago it would of been equal to A1 . There was a truck load of quality ex SANFL players chasing the coin .

These days it is arguably one of worst standards in SA .

South Gawler were going to play at Loxton on the weekend i think it was called off due to the hot weather, Angaston played Wallaroo and won by 15 goals on Saturday.

Hafey, you're right about the standard today but I reckon you've lost track of time in the last 20 years. BLG was a real good comp in the late 80's and very early 90's, don't think it was quite up to it 10 years ago though.

Surely its not THAT bad? How would the standard compare to the North Eastern League?

Yeah your probably around the mark there rotter , was early - mid 90's when gawler joined the barossa league .

GWW its of a very low standard in my opinion , I have seen the north eastern league and it would be on par .Teams such as freeling & barossa districts had reasonable teams due to there large amount of import players , alomost 50% compared to the rest of the clubs who had to field 95% local players . This is why those two clubs played in the last two grand finals but i believe the import rule has been changed to even the comp up again .

Chris Stacey leaving Freeling
Still no news on any Freeling gains

The BLG (like most grass roots comps today) has become more of a feeder competition for the SANFL with a lot of talented kids heading down to try out for the under 17 & 19 sides, unfortunately the trend is that after playing SANFL the kids end up chasing the buck and not returning to their home club.

Hafey youre spot on. The import rule allowing teams like barossa and freeling upto 10 imported players while Gawler teams are allowed 3, has made a mockery of the comp in the past 5 years and it is good to see the system is being rationalised.

You dont need to be nostradumbass to predict that the barossas and freelings of this world will be singing for their supper again in the coming 5 years.

South Gawler will be having their first hit this weekend... they will be travelling to Mannum... it will be interesting to see how they go...

Also I hear there is some discontent at the donnybrooks... some senior players are upset at the coin being given to some of the younger players... so much so that they have declared they will be playing B grade for the year!!

Gawler Centrals have lost a few - Vivian, Souter and Cluse and picked up a couple - Thomas from Seaton probably the best pick up for them.
