I thought he did captain the Bears, but i think his claim to fame was being the first player to sign with the Bears. Looking on wikipedia before, he was VC at the time when Mickan was captain.

Thank Christ someone can remember this bloke! :?
(Rumour has it he played a few decent games and may have won a couple of premierships)

Didn't know Wagga was in South Australia. :-k

If Carey is a South Australian, then Graham Cornes is a Victorian.

If we are going to dispute Carey, we should possibly rule out Nathan Buckley too - he was originally from the NT and only spent a few years in SA.
Adam Goodes (Sydney) and Shane Crawford (Hawthorn) were both born in SA I believe.
Did John Platten ever captain Hawthorn?

Ignore my earlier post - we are looking at who from the SANFL, not who from South Australia.

I think Tuck would have been captain for most of the time Platten was with the Hawks, i'm pretty sure Platten was never captain.

Was never appointed captain but was definitely vice captain - meaning he most likely acted as captain at some stage.

That is what I thought may have been the case too, Smac bro. Shall we claim him as captain for the list?

He also had Ayres, Langford & Dunstall as captain in his time, not sure which years JP was vice captain, but I'm still claiming him...

I can remember John Platten tossing the coin at least once so I will back Smac in claiming him.
