The league game was slightly different too in that the first 2 quarters were normal arrangement with the heat policy stops and 20 minutes plus time on. The second half became 2 20 minute no time on quarters with no break.

Youngsters again for us played well with Staples, Raynor, Broadbrent, Mackie, Rimington all doing well - again the match committee swung guys into different positions and used the bench alot for rotations.

Again a good trial - we've improved each week and have seen lots of players in game conditions and used in a variety of positions. Now we have a week off to freshen up ready for round one against at Prospect.

Remember Free Members Night on Thursday 27th March to launch our season.

thanks Cd I stand corrected lucky I didnt put a donut on it :wink: :lol:

Maybe teams are getting more serious with their experimentation with the season drawing closer?
What were the line ups like? Any notable outs?

Doyle, Borlace (played 2nds), Aish, Nitschke, Dawes, Zorzi, Culpitt (or did he start the game...?) are the main guys who didn't play tonight.

North had O'Hara, Ivens, Clarke, Ryswyk, D.Ebert, Wright (played 2nds), Ward (only played a small portion), Stribling, Delvins and J.Wundke out tonight off the top of my head.

is that because he strained his hammy?????

port looked quite good but maybe they looked better then what they were because south were really quite pathetic. souths skill level was quite abysmal and they really need to stop running the sand hills and actually grab hold of a footy and do some skills

i heard jack on the radio back in january and i dont think he expects too much, i cant see the sfl lads he has in there quite cutting it against the big boys

I watched the Reserves play - they too wasted a lot of the ball for a quarter and a half - thought Chris Kent was solid in defence;
Mark Obushak running out of the back lines has a lot of class and composure could be a gun player;
Anthony Carlile (Alipate's brother) showed some really good signs and some not so good; and
Luke Denton was pretty good in defence also in first half, but wasted a bit of ball coming out.
Only a couple of those probably deserve a run in the last trial this weekend.

Tyson Bock for Ports really stood out with some strong marking in defence - very good hands and confident.

Okay, granted G, so they are not ALL proven league stars, but why do you think we have been so strong for so long. It's called quality depth. If required, these guys can step into the league team and perform. We beat you guys in the GF with a few names that you probably hadn't heard of that cut their teeth in the ressies... You should know, North players like Kreig, Cook, Macgowan, both Walton's, McLean, Coulter, Gatto and Haseldine all came from Centrals because we had superior depth. Where did you get your mail about Steinberner (not burner) finishing, he is on playing list still. Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait and see come Thursday night...

Can't remember if it was a hammy, but it was one of those slight twinges that you'd normally play through in a real game and be OK for the next week, not a severe strain or tear or anything (from what I heard).

Write Steiny off at your peril. Spoke to Muzza (Murray Hamblin) who was at Steiny's house the night before and said that Steiny is keen as mustard and confident his injury is behind him. Will be like a new young recruit this year.

Here Here Bulldogproud.... :D

You tell me you wouldn't mind having a 5 time Premiership player, Jack Oatey medalist on your list trying to make a comeback from 4 shoulder reco's. Clay Sampson has done it from South and it's no different to someone like injury prone Darryl Wintle playing on (except they don't have the 5 premiership medallions) :wink:

Steiny is a true club man and deserves every opportunity to prove people wrong, I hope that he does. No doubt he hasn't lost his turn of pace and he still looks as fit as a fiddle. Fingers crossed for ya Steiny :D

C`mon G what are you on about Essa. I`m sure that if O`Hara,Hadden stengle and Musolino dont play league that your club cocks will try and snap them up next season.Afterall the Chooks like stealing players from other clubs instead of developing their own youngsters.

Rumour has Lairdy will play his best 21 available in both league and reserves on thursday night, with players missing out completly. He apparently also said that the season proper starts as of thursday night and you are ALL now playing for your round 1 spot. According to my source he was quite aggressive with his speech.

Be very surprised if all of the SANFL coaches aren't using that speech this week....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
