Rugolo was a reasonable player until 2 years ago, he broke his leg when the Eagles defeated Port during a final at Adelaide Oval and has never been the same. He just does not get enough of the footy, good skills but less than ten 10 possessions every week in a team that wins most games is not good enough. If Port struggle this season and Vinnie is camped in the forward lines I cannot see a lot changing. He was not required at the Eagles as the coach told him it was unlikely that he will get a regular league game. Vinnie chalked up over 80 games and was a popular figure at the Eagles but he had nothing further to offer.

Tex perkins has also been floating around the forward lines in trials, he has height, no build but....

He played particularly well in one game late last year when he moved down to the forward line to kick a couple of running goals. Think it was against Norwood, he showed in that game, he could be very handy across half forward on a flank, or maybe as a wingman.

Keep in mind he kicked those Norwood goals still playing from the back flank...which included that 6 or 7 bounce special.

Must be nearly the start of the seaon because the Maggie-bashing is well underway on this thread already. Good to see we cleared up the question of our tradition so early in the year. Bet that get's an airing about another dozen times though from some other know-nothing nimrods. God bless 'em.

I'm of the opinion that this is a make or break year for Ginever. He has to get us top Top-3 or he's probably gone. It might be a bridge too far though and perhaps a finals appearance with some good looking footy would be enough. I think we do generally play the right style with him, but sometimes if we are under the pump (especially when in defence) we still revert to the kick it round in circles Richmond/Fremantle shite that Knight brought to the club

Some key ins for us are obviously Pickett and the return of Eichner. This should hopefully take some of the pressure off Ah Chee who can only improve on his 2007 season which was poor by his standards. Hopefully Murray continues to shine like he did in the second half of last year, but we need guys like Perkins and Summerton to really step up, and we need Sam Mardling to bulk up and learn to kick over a jam jar too. Le Cras was patchy last year and I don't honestly think we will miss him. If Hargy is fit then Batson might have a clearer idea of his role (I think we was unsure of himself last year). I think we might miss Jenner more than we realise though, and perhaps that means Biacsi needs to come forward more. Poulton is a loss - but Pickett should cover some aspects of what he brought to our game. The centre is no problem with Clayton and Mikeljohn - we should get PLENTY of it if they both stay fit. Hopefully Mark Clayton can be coaxed out of his thinking tree soon too. We will miss Ebert and Greenwood (obviously), but I'm looking forward to seeing some of these U/19 champs coming through.

I'm glad everyone is writing us off. Will be sweeter when we beat them.

My honest assessment is 3rd place at best, and hopefully no worse than 6th.

You'd miss it if it didn't happen.

The website states that he and 5 or so other players were rested on the week-end.
Didnt see him at the ground at all Saturday and he was excused from playing all 3 internals.
Could be resting from the amount of rest he's had......

I bow to the judgement of fatalberton when it comes to Port Maggies but i honestly cant see where the improvement will come from.
What are the options for full forward and Centre half forward and don't say Hargreaves because in 2008 any decent defender should slaughter him.
Byron is a big plus but in some ways is just covering for the old fav Poulton who gave it away way too young.
I don't see Port going top five, but funnier things have happened.
Actually, i don't see the top 5 changing.

NO ONE gave Sturt a chance of making the 5 last year and they did. Port aren't certainties, but a final 5 position is a definite possibility - J Clayton, Perkins, Perry, Thurgood, Achee, Despasquale, Summerton, Meicklejohn, Elstone, Murray.......all quality players, although obviously Clayton needs to control his aggression. The club obviously needs to lift to lift in certain areas, and depending on how well it does, it should finish anywhere from 4th to 7th.

I can see a club or 2 dropping out of the 5, the Eagles probably being the most likely. If that happens then anyone of Port, Norwood, West, and even South will be up there with a definite chance of clinching a finals berth.

Hopefully the improvement will come from the kids who have played in the last 2 U/19 premierships. Mix a few of these kids in with the players that GWW listed above and improvement will be a certain, Miller, Lokan, Batson and crew can step aside for these guys.

Whats your thoughts on Miller Buzz??
My initial thoughts on the 30-40 mins i did see of the game on Sat is he's lazy as #&**.
Man that guy doesn't get out of first gear & also sits out back & looks for cheap hanballs as often as he can, the bloke dont want to get dirty, he'd go home not needing a shower every game he plays. With what i saw he'll be playing alot of B grade this year & wouldn't surprise me at some stage he'll be look'n for a clearance to W.A with his cousin at Subiaco.

Saw the end of training on Wednesday - not the whole squad, basically just the forwards having some dobs on goal.

Pickett was there. Looks in decent shape.

Miller was there too - isn't as fat as some might suggest.

Hargs look trim too.

Didn't notice M Clayton (or Jezz) though.

NO ONE gave Sturt a chance of making the 5 last year and they did

Part of that was fitness and a very big part coaching. Sturt were sliding for a few years under Phillips and he completely lost the players and a lot did not enjoy him being coach so they stopped playing for him. Mind you I am not sure he could coach . So from what I gather Port could have the same issues , however on the surface at least Ginever is a likeable character. Lets hope you sort it out because the sooner Port become a force whilst there are some of the big clubs up there the better for the comp. A return of the big 4 must be the SANFL's dream.
