Talk on the national game

Media and AFL.

I saw bits of the one day international Cricket match today and posted the comment below in that thread in the "Cricket" forum. Then I wondered whether I was being cynical enough.

Are games in AFL or the pre-season round yet being manipulated for the media's benefit and gate money?

Will it come?

Or am I being completely paranoid?

Are the sporting media just more in advance of the marketing in Cricket than they are in the AFL yet??

Its a good point psyber. Surely not, unlike cricket there are 44 blokesplaying each week.Far more people involved and it just takes 1 person to blow the whistle. I think you are just being paranoid. My Dad still thinks the test between Australia and India in 2001 at Eden Gardens was fixed because of the walkout of the Indian public at the worlds most forbidden cricket ground the day prior to the great escape by the Indians.I keep telling him to stop thinking "Its the world versus you". What would you say if I said cricket and footy had more of a chance of being fixed 30 years ago than it does now??. Food for thought..............

Paranoid.
Too many people need to be in on it, therefore someone will spill the beans.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

It's believable - I saw L Jarvis and K Cunningham umpiring as a youngster...
However, now there is an organisation like Telstra/Foxtel involved. I would believe they world try anything. Whether, as you say, they could keep it quiet is another issue.

I don't really see the pattern of wild form fluctations in footy like those that appear in Cricket, and the Cricket team could, I suppose, be going out to "easy" matches hung over, perhaps, as an alternative explanation?!
