"NAB Cup Rules."

Postby sasquatch » Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:55 pm

Watching a NAB Cup game for the first time in a few seasons I took great note of the newly-trialled rules.
I think the nine-point "Super Goal" is eventually going to be introduced to the Premiership season, and I'd be very happy to see it.
I mean, it (kicking a nine point goal instead to a six point goal) becomes tactical, in that players in a tight contest may be able to go for a more difficult shot to get nine points, as opposed to setting up an easier though less rewarding six point goal.
The rule where it is "play on" when the ball strikes the goal/behind posts, and remains in play is an interesting one, though it seemed like the players all seemed to stop and start when they realised the ball was still in play. It may be that they just need to get used to the inception of the rule, but it is another new rule that could liven up the game and make it a bit more interesting.

i would hate it if it came into the Premiership season. I don't mind it so much in the NAB cup because i don't watch it and no one cares about the NAB cup. We need to keep our great game the way it is.

It's good for a laugh in the NAB Cup and it is something different but please, please leave the scoring system alone! It's perfect the way it is.

NAB CUP RULES SUCK! What good has the change in rules done in the past few years?

More importantly how on earth can you think they are good for the game???????? My god. That's exactly what's wrong with the game, changing rules for the sake of change.

I'll take you back, the 50 m rule was initially brought in to stop people from giving away professional 15m penalties because it was players stopping players from playing on. So now that equates to a 50 m for a bloke stepping 1 m over the mark or a bloke who runs across the mark or a bloke who hits a bloke after he takes a mark, crazy!

The super goal is just plain w@nk, the play on from a ball hitting the point post is garbage........again it speeds the game up even though the AFL want to "slow the game down". The rushed behind thing is craziness! If you're a defender, what can you do, go the boundary and get pinged for deliberate?

All the rule changes/proposed changes are pure stupidity!

IF 2007 was the best standard of footy you've watched in a fair few years (and most seem to agree it was), the changes from the years 2002 - 2005 must have done some good.

I'd also say too the ruck / knee rule that came out of the NAB Cup in 2005 has also had the effect of zero ruckmen going down with PCL injuries in ruck contests in the past two years, compared to 15 in the two years before that.

Nothing has changed for the 08 season at all, since 07 went so well.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

I don't actually mind NAB Cup rules as It makes for a more tactical game. I like play on when ball hits post, play on when ball is kicked backwards to stop possession footy, 9 point super goal though lame makes a team losing able to catch back up with a few 9 pointers and the 3 points rushed behind is a good idea.

I don't mind the play on from a kick backwards in the defensive half. I would like to see that introduced in the real season. The rest should stay as NAB Cup rules only.
