OUCH!

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:29 am

Farren Ray - cracked Leg
Rhett Biglands - Knee (s)
Nick Malceski - Knee (s)
Paul Haselby - Knee (s)
Nathan Grima - Knee (s)

Some serious injuries already and the season isn't due to start for weeks. Got to feel sorry for young blokes who train all summer long only to break down in February. Twice as bad for Biglands who has copped it twice in a row.

Poor buggers.

regards,

Feel sorry for the players but not the club.
They seriously have to look at their work rate as far as trainings concerned. ( overload )
Craig & Co think their "ROBOTS", have a look at the injuries sustained since Craig's taken over.
I think the science has gone to his head.

Yeh, that's right it'd be Charlie Walsh, Neil Craig and Mick Nunan's fault with each one of those injuries!!!

None of those injuries have anything to do with overload.

Never had them as bad as this back in the 60's 70's or 80's and well before that, the more training the more pressure on bones and ligaments, what alot of these guys don't realise that is what they are going to be like once retired and around the 50 mark, alot wont be able to walk unaided

Thankyou locky801, pup doesn't think you can get injuries from over training.

Think what pup was saying that the crows injuries weren't from overuse, i.e. blowing your ACL is more of an impact injury, no-one could say Hentschel's knee blew out from overuse.

I don't know enough about it, but there may be an argument for knee's and the like being overuse injuries if the tendons wear down, and stabiliser muscles weaken. There could be other causes like the speed of the game and high velocity impacts which could cause the injuries too. Too hard to say whether injuries are from overuse or not.

ACL's are NOT an overuse injury and not necessarily an impact injury either, although in those instances you will not only do an ACL but your medial ligament will go with it as well..

ACL injuries are most commonly caused by pivoting, twisting or extending your knee beyond it's normal range of movement or control. Usually due to poor muscle conditioning around the knee and/or also poor footwear for the sport you are playing can also contribute as well.

I could rabbit on because I've dealt with them so much but I won't. But I will leave you with this little fact.

ACL injuries are more prelevant in women than men. Especially at "that time of the month"... true story...

Also can be attributed to being 'top heavy' I believe - the arms/shoulders/pecs are too bulky for the knees to carry when doing the twisting you speak of FC.

I think the term you are looking for is muscle imbalance between the hamstrings and the quads when the quads have a far greater strength ratio to teh hamstrings than is optimal. This can be due to training and fatigue.

lots of research on Quad to hamsting strength ratios on the aetiolgy of ACL injury in teh late 80s and early 90s.

Locky is it a function of the training or the change in game tactics where there is far more jogging and high speed running in todays game compared to the 60s and 70s and it was much more stop start.

Studies done by Jaques and pavia in the 70s showed a relatively high proportion of player activity (compared to now) was standing and walking - this gave the the players time to recover between efforts.

Nowdays with the amount of high intensity running and jogging being so much greater - flooding and run and carry handball orientated games the modern football athlete just doesn't stop hence the muscles get fatigued and then pop....

in the 80s studies showed that players rarely ran at high intensity for more than 4 s at a time. And only 7% of game time was spent in high intensity running.

GPS data and the pineapple head data from teh 90s showed that players are spending more game time at high intensity running and that the average epoch (time spent at high speed) was drifting out to six and eight seconds.

Actually there is a train of thought the higher the training intensity and volume the better the athlete is able to cope with this modern style of play...

IMO it isn't the training per se it is the change in tactics (more handball orientated and running game) that has led to more muscle strains and knee sprains.

I blame Jack Oatey and Len Smith....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

It might be that, but my surgeon started a rant about too much weight training on the upper body before he cut my knee open. My eyes glassed over because I couldn't care less, just wanted it fixed. Sadly, he kept going anyway...

Shithouse injuries, I wish it upon no one.

Like I said before FC, I understand whe people say ACLs aren't an overuse injury, but couldn't poor muscle conditioning around the knee be caused by overtraining?

Add jared Grant, Bulldogs -- stingray

He stepped on a stingray in the morning session at the beach today and got spiked in the calf. off to hospital and now won't play his first game tonight. Said to not be too serious though, so hopefully only 1-2 weeks on the sidelines
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

That's right Dogger, TD is said to be really hard because of the concrete only half a metre underneath the playing field, what I don't understand is why people are talking about building a new stadium over the rail yards on Nth Tce where you'd have the same problem, they'll probably put a roof on it to stop the grass from growing also. If the residents allow it in the first place.
