5RPH Leagues Team Show 20/4/06

Postby Wedgie » Thu Apr 20, 2006 9:27 pm

As per usual this year a great listen.

1 big comment by Darryl Smith:
"The umpire cost Norwood the game against the Eagles"

Also, I really enjoy Phil Herden's recorded commentary every week.

And if anyone from RPH has a look on here, for christ sake get Blandis to stop saying "Absolutely" 15 times every minute be it when he's commentating or when he's making comments on the show.

Also Darryl Smith, there's another website besides the one you always mention that actually talks about 5RPH more than the one you mention!

What a joke that was. The instance he was referring to in his words was when Peel ran 20 metres with the ball and got tackled and dropped the ball which cost Norwood the game because the Eagles got a goal out of the next play.

Considering Peel is not even playing this season and it was actually Treeby who was tackled virtually as he picked the ball up after it sat for him and it got knocked out in the tackle. It's a pity the SANFL needs to rely on such amateurs to get coverage. The free kick count in the game was significantly in favour of Norwood. Gave up listening after hearing that and won't bother changing my radio to 1197 on a Thursday night again.

i agree with you about pb but worse than that is the fact that he tries to be funny when 'commentating' i've heard two games when i've been at the footy (i was at a different game with one of them) & your 'mate' umpire p williams was the umpire & pb calls him ben stiller (he thinks pw looks like bs) & continues to say it, so will someone tell him to call the game & dont try & crack jokes as he is not funny & its even worse when the 'jokes' repeated constantly

this is not a personal attack on pb but constructive criticism
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Aerie, not that I thought the umpires cost Norwood the game, but you have got to be joking right??

Treeby or whoever, ran at least 10 metres with the ball, had plenty of opportunity before he got tackled. In my books thats holding the ball.

Yes Wedgie i do need to mention this web site and will start doing so from now on. All this discusion over my opion of an umpire error, I have checked with PB and JN who both called the game and all three of us are of he opion the incident I was talking about was the one when when Norwoods Zorzi chased down Power (not Peel Aerie) and the umpire was looking into the sun and called play on, I feel the other 2 umpires could have called the free because all 3 of us were under the same opion. As for your comments Aerie we are not paid to do the show we all leave our famlies on a thursday night to give something back to the SANFL so with comments like your's the best way to answer that is listen to the other stations for the teams, oh I forgot they don't do them, as I have also said in the past have the courage to come up and introduce yourself as i have done with many of the people who have been critical of RPH but you know not one person has done so ( i know wedgie will when we do a north game) and i am guessing you will be the same.

Darryl, full credit to you for the effort you put into RPH.

However, when you put yourself in the public eye, you have to be prepared for some criticism. Have a look at the cr.p blokes like Cornes, Cunningham, Rucci, Milbank and Robertson cop. Day in, day out they are criticised for each word they get wrong, each comma they put in the wrong place. That's the reality of life in the media (regardless of whether you get paid or not).

Now I'm confused at which eagles player it was. Dont keep track of eags players, but I know which incident you were talking about ds, and I back you up on it and totally agree.

No umpiring decision has ever cost a game in the history of football. In this case you can as well blame the crappy kick in from out of bounds on the full, the subsequent poor handball under pressure that resulted in a turnover or the excellent rn and shot for goal that put the Eagles in front. Or any other incident in the preceding two hours of play. Any game has around two hours of play with many incidents that affect the outcome. To pick one out is ridiculous.

I'm a Norwood fan and I'm sick of our supporters laying the blame for a loss on a stretcher case or an umpiring decision or whatever. We lost. Move on.

I agree. I'm a Norwood supporter as well, and I think blaming anyone else but yourself for a loss is a sign of weakness. Excuses don't win football matches.

Another Norwood supporter here who agree's completely, no team or club will ever develop if they make excuses for their OWN failure to grasp the opportunities that are presented in any given match ... To be honest I haven't spoken to many who blame the ump's for our loss and nor they should, I'm sure Eagles fans could point out plenty of decisions they felt were applied incorrectly or missed entirely aswell!!

Well Said Constance_Perm. I totally agree and it's fantastic to see some supporters from the losing side not willing to blame the umpiring however good or bad it may or maynot have been. Keep up your great work and all the best to the Legs for the remainder of season that is except when your playing my Eags.
