sturt recruit !!!!

Postby bayman » Thu Feb 14, 2008 10:57 pm

is barnaby french contemplating playing for sturt ? (would be good for sturt & the competition), i believe that IF his back holds up over the next few weeks he'll end up playing despite what we've been told, he would have committed earlier but is concerned about his back

if he does play, the ruck isn't the only option, chb,chf is as well which would mean where will perrie play ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

we asked the question a while ago and the answer was strictly coaching only, id be VERY SURPRISED if he did come back. I highly, HIGHLY doubt it.

I the only place that he might comeback to is the magoos to help out if we were short. I think our senior coach did that when at the roosters a few years back

Good ruckman only I reckon. After a couple of years away and not having the excessive talent to play KP forward or back, I don't think opposition CHB or CHF's would be shaking in their boots. IMHO

Hmm...bet you Sturt-ites wish it was Frenchy having that kick for goal late in the Elimination Final vs. the Bays last season, and not Feasty...

I agree, wouldn't be a huge threat in the SANFL this year if he made a comeback.

I would strongly disagree gents.

I am not for one minute suggesting he will play but if he did he would be extremely handy both in the ruck and in a KP. He has had trouble with his back but we must all remember he was training full time in the AFL and that wouldn't have helped the cause. The guy is only 31 yo, is built like a brick outhouse and has a great footy brain. He has a rowing background and as such his natural fitness and ability is terrific.

He would need to be managed carefully and IF he did play it would take a little while to get back to near his best, but rest assured, he would make a very big impact on Sturt and the SANFL, particularly around September (not that followers of South or Port would need to be concerned there).

If I were an opposition supporter I would rather he just coached!

I didn't see a lot of French after he left SA, but I always saw him as a serviceable rather than a good ruckman. However, I haven't seen much of the SANFL standard since 1998, so I don't know where he will fit there.

Probably played more as a ruckman in the AFL and more as a kpp in the SANFL.
