The Tiser says it is his first time since 1990...I was under the impression he played game for them in 97/98 sometime (It may have been a trial). Could be wrong and probably are. Does anyone know?

To be honest I am struggling with the Powder's strategy regarding Gavin

Choc went to all lengths to entice Gavin not to retire and suggested that he take most of the pre-season off so he can remain fresh and that he would be used in a pitch-hitting role off the bench...

Now this approach seems to of back fired as Gavin has struggled for form and fitness.......

I just wonder if this strategy has merrit.....

I don't think you can play at AFL level unless you prepare yourself to play every minute of every game, if you prepare yourself as a part time play your form will suffer and you will risk injury

For Gav's sake I hope this is not the case as he is a champion of the game

Pretty sure the last game Wangas played in the SANFL was the 1990 Grand Final against Glenelg when he embarrassed Salisbury.

Unfortunately, you can't predict when injuiries will strike. Gavin had a very much interrupted preseason, even with his reduced workload. He's definitely lacking match fitness but that also could result in him becoming injured while playing SANFL.

I'd be happy to see him play a pinch hitting role off the bench for the remainder of the season but I think that Michael Wilson will also have to play a similar role. I don't think that you can have 2 guys in the side that can play less than 50% per match. The decision will need to be made as to which one is selected each week IMO. We simply can't afford to have youngsters missing out on AFL games just so that Gav and Wilbur can play out their careers.

If we were being honest, Wangas effectively retired after the 2004 grand final.

Still hope he gives us a few glimpses of his brilliance in what is likely to be his final seasonn.
