For Port Adelaide, it'd either be Fos Williams or Russell Ebert

Great idea but...I don't think the clubs could ever name just one player for each gate. Every club has so many great players in it's history and for so many different reasons, it would be impossible. My suggestion would be to name each gate after each club with the team logo above the entrance. Instead of statues how about a display of each clubs 'team of the century'.

NO

Of course they do - their cash cows (Crows & Power) would be stuffed without it. But of course their focus is elsewhere, what business would concentrate on the lowest source of revenue?

Eagles: Malcolm Blight (although he played for Woodville)
Port: Russell Ebert
North: Barrie Robran
South: Hayden Bunton
Centrals: John Platten
Glenelg: Peter Carey
Sturt: Peter Motley
Norwood: Gary McIntosh
West: Neil Kerley (although he did play for many clubs)

What do you lot reckon? :)

Here is my list, yet bear in mind that I have slanted some of mine towards "favourite players" as I am not confident to name who I think would have been the absolute best ever from another club!

Central - Wilbur Wilson
Glenelg - Peter Carey
North Adelaide - Barrie Robran,
Norwood - Gary McIntosh
Port Adelaide - Tim Evans,
Sturt - Jim Derrington
South Adelaide - Peter Darley,
West Adelaide - Roger Luders,
West Torrens - Bob Hank,
Woodville - Malcolm Blight,

Excellent idea Sojourner.

Dare I suggest we have two statues at one gate, representing both Wood and WT.

Or I'd be happy with just an Eagles post 1990 player. In which case it would have to be Gavin Colville, esp with a plaque explaining his selfless decision to leave pull out of 06 GF.

How many bars are there at Football Park? :drinkers:
If there's the right amount, maybe the SANFL clubs can honour their best off-field performer by naming the bars. :-k
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

i would 100% support it.

This is a brilliant idea Sojourner.Footy Park is a cocncrete jungle with no soul and anything to enhance the ground would be awesome. The crows and the power would not be here without the SANFL and I believe more should be done to promote the fact of where they originate from.
Young kids and even opposition fans could maybe get a sence of the great football culture that the SANFL IS!!
The AFL may be the big boy proffesional league, but I love the SANFL and I hope the comp can sustain its popularity, and maybe even grow in popularity.Any initiative no matter how small to add to this should be embraced. :D
Its about time the papers( eg the Advertiser),had more news on the SANFL,I can get more info out of the local messenger!

It's a fantastic idea, though I'd just dedicate each gate to each SANFL club but still have a statue of the greatest player.

I'd also take it further and:
- call the new stand the Malcolm Blight stand
- paint the areas around each gate in that clubs colours

It would certainly add a bit of colour to the stadium, and remind those Crows/Power supporters who have completely abandoned the SANFL competition about where the roots of the two sides came from - the SANFL.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Sojourner, you are officially SAFooty's "Ideas Man".....

great suggestion and I think it is something the SANFL should adopt immediately in fact I suggest all SAFootiers email the SANFL with this suggestion and stipulate that we want SANFL legends recognised not AFL ones.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I like it - with one suggestion of my own.
If you were to name a gate after a player, I would like the eligibility criteria to be that the player had to have played at Footy Park ie since the ground opened in the mid 1970s. That would ensure that the gate names had a direct association with the named players in question.
Otherwise, I think the concept of naming each gate after the nine clubs would also be good with a statue out the front of a player who fits the above criteria.

yeah but coventry never played at the docklands stadium & that works well, & seeing it is the home of the sanfl you have to have ken farmers name at one end of the ground

OK, but what works for them doesn't have to be the model we adopt either
Was only trying to link the ground to the recognised players.
