North relocating to Adelaide Oval??

Postby Jimmy » Mon Feb 11, 2008 2:18 am

I know this isnt new, but I have just been reading on the roost about plans for north to move to adelaide oval!!!

this must be concerning for the north fans out there if this goes ahead? I read an interesting post from drebin on there about how its been in the pipelines for a while and they are really gearing things up for a move there and moving everything away from prospect!!!

I would like to hear north fans thoughts on this plus other sanfl fans thoughts!! Is this a good idea? What benefit? What are the issues around the decision?

I hated having sturt away from unley and having a home ground in the clubs foundations is very important as it helps give the team its identity etc. Its a shame if north were to move away.

I'd be concerned also Jimmy, I think it's important to have your clubrooms at your home ground, otherwise your supporters disperse too quickly post game and after a while the club will loose it's sense of community. If North have problems with the local council then that's different. Good luck to them if that's what's happening.

Obviously I'm not privy to the financial implications/benefits that might be on offer to the NAFC, but as a club that has fought hard to get themselves on a more than healthy financial footing, I'd be concerned about the thought of leaving the traditional homebase were I a Roosters fan.

Fair enough if it were a temporary move whilst Prospect underwent an upgrade of facilities or the like, but on a permanent basis I'd be none too happy.

For those powers-that-be at Prospect that are seriously pushing for this move, there surely must be reasons ... Can any Roosters fans tell me what their argument is to support such a move?

It has me curious as well :?

Going to prospect is a great day out as with most of our local grounds :D

Being able to get a BBQ lunch, easy access to a pie or pasty, a beer etc etc is a tradional thing with SANFL, being up close, walking onto the oval at 1/4 & 3/4 time, all these factors make our local product great and moving to Adelaide oval will take some of these things away from Norths.

Im interested as well in the thoughts of North people, the 6 I have spoken to all HATE the idea.

Prospect oval is a disgrace and has to go.
Whether it be for cricket or football it has to be the worst oval for ammenities, surface and parking.

You serious ? Prospect is a great oval (can't comment on the playing surface as I've never had a run on it). Good grandstands, great beer caravan where you can run the gauntlet with the Groggys, good outer wing with nice terracing and shade for the kids, a bit of grass, toilets better then the Bay, parking never a issue (never not found one). Amenities are fine, always had hot food (bloody good Hot Dogs  ), and the Bays have a good record there recently...IMO would be in my top four ovals of the league (behind Woodville, Glenelg & Alberton  ).
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

As Panther supporter I hated the idea of the club being based at Adelaide Oval, so it didnt work for me!

North on the other hand are not anything like Geographically as far away and although I am not sure how the city is split up in SANFL zones I think that Adelaide Oval is inside of their Zone, which if so would suggest that if they did make the move that it would still be within their zone which makes another way of looking at it.

I would rather see North continue to play at Prospect, the ground has a lot of heritage in the SANFL and letting go of those things often tends to be regretted later on.

Yet the board of the club have a duty to make the best commercial decisions that they feel will make the club more successfull. If it can be proven that playing at Adelaide would have more positives for the club than the current situation then I suppose they have to seriously consider a move.

My only gripe with Adelaide Oval is car parking and the parklands being closed for parking in inclemant weather, so if the move is made it would be interesting to see how that is planned to be dealt with.

North should relocate to Happy Valley.
If thats not feasible they should relocate to somewhere in Queensland so I could move up there.

Why would Centrals supporters hate going to Prospect given how many games in a row you win at our home ground. Last years win for us against the dogs was the first at Prospect for about 10 years!

I just don't like the people that frequent the ground mate.
People coming from Broadview (apologies Smac), Clearview, Enfield, Greenacres, Gepps Cross.
They're just a bit feral for mine.
