CDFC Depth

Postby Terry » Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:27 pm

I know other supporters dont care about the Doggies.Just interested to know what you may or may not think about the depth of them this season.Yes we have injuries but in previous seasons that hasn`t affected us as our reserves were pretty strong.Personally I think the depth is average and we may get found out this year

I think the depth has gradually gone downhill since 2003 when it was at its height IMHO.
I remember going out to a North v Dogs game at Elizabeth in 2003, when after watching both the reserves and league side stating that I thought Central's reserves side at that stage would have beaten our league team!

Is the situation with the 17's and 19's all that rosy at Central?
Not trying to stir, just that a few Central's supporters awhile back hinted that it may not be.

"Adam" who had his letter read out on 5RPH tonight was not impressed to say the least that his Dogs had spent so much on lights and not as much on Youth Development and quality recruits as he'd like.

As far as Central's chances of taking out their 6th flag in 7 years, I'm not writing them off until at least October. I was one bad result from writing them off last year and was very glad I didn't!

Its interesting reading as most Centrals supporters believe that our depth is excellent. Not sure what they are seeing, and yes Wedgie havn`t the Doggies 2`S dropped off.Just scraped into the FIVE last year, will be lucky to win 7 games this season. No Depth no pressure to the players above.

I think you'll find the Council paid for the lights. Look at the average age of the Reserves - thats a lot of youth coming through.

The Central 17s are last and the 19s are top, so I've been told, and that we're playing them on Saturday. All fans are welcome to watch if your team is not playing. Eagles v Central underage teams start at 11.35 am.

Our under 17s have been good for a while though ( talking Sturt ). Then most of the kids go to reserves.

And know most of them are playing in your league team after leaving Central because of a lack of opportunities to play league at CDFC. :x

the reason why the doggie did not spend shit loads on recruits is not due to a lack of finance, obviously the club has plenty of confidence on the younger guys coming through........

Of course our depth has dropped off, look at the players we have lost to other clubs

Don't write us off just yet, we will be around the place come finals

What do you mean Sydney Dog,lack of FINANCE.No room in the salary cap or just no money.I thought that we made a big profit in 2005.Troy Butcher would have been handy as a recruit. How come the Maggies could afford him and we couldn`t.Have we spent too much time and cash on lights. The novelty of that will not last, lets see how big a drop off that we will get on Saturday night against Westies.

The doggies didn't play too bad yesterday after they got going. The new players to the team and the young improving players were the best - vindicating the clubs stance on recruitment. If they can build on the form in the last quarter they will agin be a force this year. I see a fair bit of upside - hopefully they peak about October.

From what I saw on the TV when Centrals backed themselves in the last quarter and ran forward and kicked long - they found some good scoring avenues. With the Cochranes to come back and provide run and strength from the back/midfield and Schell and Cowans back up forward they will have even more confidence going forward quickly and directly. It won't be long before they will be right back where they expect to be.

Yeah from what I saw, they didnt look like winning all day. Then the opening 15-20 minutes of the last term they looked like the Doggies of old and quickly pulled the margin back to under a goal, and had a couple of chances to hit the front. If they can produce that form over 4 quarters they will be right up there again.

They lost by a lot bigger margin this game last year and ended the season on a 10-12 game winning streak.

Yeh okay Drebin I FKD up.they might be backing the juniors but personally I think they`ve put too much pressure on the juniors and far too much pressure on the senior group.Yes they have injuries, in the past they could cover an injury or two.I guess that time will tell how they recover from this bad start to the season.Just have not replaced some of the best players in the SANFL(Bello,Arnott,Healy,Hopwood and Hay)well enough.

Terry without sounding like a know all - I agree with you but it's not my club yet I have seen North go through it and I guess al clubs go through it at some stage after a period of sustained success. I am suprised given Centrals finances that they didn't recruit one or two more high profile players but if you hadn't had the injuries to start the year then this topic would not be discussed. I will wait and see when Centrals have a full list back on deck and then I think they will come good. Way too early to be hitting the panic button and laying blame.
