I'm trying to figure out how this has made those club's recruiting more successful than others.

For example West have a very good recruiting ground here in the Riverland....

Dogwatcher, if they did a number of kids under 23 in your zones (centrals and souths would win by a mile). There are country leagues in sa, the riverland league is nowhere near as strong as it was, the barossa league is a very strong breeding ground with more than its fair share of talented players

Ex adelaide player (SAANL & SANFL) can go to the riverland and in their own rights become TOP players yet couldnt cut the mustard in adelaide

Fair reply. But how does that explain Port's success from its Western zones with sparsely populated areas, declining population, declining standard in competitions, declining teams?

Maybe because Port has the 2nd biggest country zone in the SANFL in terms of numbers and because those numbers have actually grown.

I like how he say's that panther, he states that "Port" made the mistake of overstocking with interstate players & not locals.
What about stating, i made a mistake- handball, handball.
Doesn't it start from the top, the coach?
Didn't see him put his hand up or anyone from the club put any heat on him for mistakes made.
Just saw it all get thrown in Matthew Knights face earlier & their still blaming him.
Not even Timmy has fallen victim, oh i forgot he's Port through & through.Wouldn't be his fault either!!

It shows to much money is going to interstate recruits, but he's worth it :yawinkle: :yawinkle: the champ.
Doesn't leave much for the local talent.
Got to be honest though, its been happening at Port for donkeys years. :yawinkle: :yawinkle: :yawinkle: : Jezza!

Would explain why some of the local port talent in the past ends up at Oval ave. Like pretenko etc.
And a reason a mates son has gone back to his local club at salisbury north more money and he plays with his mates.

Maybe if the SANFL could get a real market price for the young talent they find instead of losing them to the AvFL, they might see them as a better investment. I guess it must be difficult for all SANFL sides to see their best young talent cherry picked before they get the chance to display that talent to their own fans, especially after the time and effort they put in to nurturing that talent in the 1st place.
