Coaches can only work within the confines of the resources given to them. This includes the full backing of the board and players. When they have this, and good cattle, things start happening. Thus Rick has signed for an extra year. The enthusiasm and support at the club are palpable.

Latin ahh... "Puer stetit in pupo incenda" etc.
[For the those who need a translation that's "The boy stood on the burning deck" with the verb shifted from its correct Latin place to fit the English rhythm - some of us used to play this game at Woodville High.]

I know somone who was an assistant coach at North Adelaide, and I know it is old news.but he had some disagreements with Jars.
This same fella also said to me Ricky Macgowan was a great assistant coach, but maybe not of the character to make a successful head coach! slightly wrong!!

I was just making the point that because someone moves on/is dismissed doesn't mean they're no good as Mickan and Macgowan were in similar boats.

and and Mickan are similar boats unless you are saying Rick has been moved on[/color]?.

None said anyone was dismissed.

As for why he left North, I heard it was because of Jarman, pure and simple, but Im not that close to the scenes in the footy dept.

Refer above

I'm a huge Rick Macgowan fan but you seem to be taking a weird train of thought Using that philosphy why did Central, North and the Eagles let Rick Macgowan go? Seems a common thread.

Lost me , I was talking about Mickan – refer previous comments
Nothing about North

How were they strange?
I simply pointed out how Rick has moved from club to club like Mickan has. Pretty straight forward I would have thought

Not so straight forward . I made a comment about Glenelg and their history in response to

Tassie Pfft, If you had shown the same forsight as the Glenelg administration (when we signed Mickan) you'd have signed him to a three year contract in the first place
Pretty straight forward I agree. Nothing to do with how the sun is aligning with the earth , or global warming , or rising seas , Just great stuff Sturt for signing Rick for 2 more years.

Hey Oct, any reason why you're not a member of DB.org? Your post read like someone who used to be on here, Sturt1. When you join up to DB.org, tell him we miss the gutless wonder funny how he went missing after September 9.....

Mate if you are insuating I am Sturt1 , sorry but you are wrong . I do read DB .org so I know the name .I assume Sept 9 was elim day ? Only a Glenelg supporter would remember the date of a winning elimination final. Good for you , lets hope you stay there for a while and not fall out again. I was going to say like history says you do but that would be unfair cos you have only been in and dropped out once in the last umpteen years. ( you may have to phone a friend on to work that out)

If the Bays finish above Sturt again this year, that will be three seasons in a row.

Welcome to the site OCT. Have fun baiting the Glenelg supporters like your other Sturt mates did last year only to see your season crumble into the abyss including three losses in a row to Glenelg...gee if we are bad, how bad does that make your "resurgent" double blues?

In all seriousness it is good Sturt have signed on McGowan until the end of 2009. He was a bloody good player and he proved last year he was a damn fine coach. My initial post was based on the fact that I always though he would be a good coach and that I personally thought he would be successful - why not sign him for three years.

I didnt say you were bad ? You did !!

If you now your footy mate, wasnt quite crumbling there were other factors involved. You Glenelg supporters keep hanging your hat on being in the finals for the first time in a long long time. Now you have won an elimination final that you know you should never have won , you keep bragging ! Dont get too far ahead mate you havent done anything !! And "resurgent" isnt quite right for us , we have been in the finals 9/10 years 2GF and a flag, hardly resurgent. Oh and I wouldnt use that term for Glenelg either, hardly resurgent 1 in 15 yrars or so . The word for that is FLUKE.

For someone who says he isn't Sturt1, you sure type like him.

One more good heat wave and 50% of your supporters will no longer be with us, anyway.

P.S.

"Look at the scoreboard"

The scoreboard says Central won the flag last year, STurt have 13 Premierships and Glenelg have 4.

Jimmy's post above is all things typical of Strut supporters.

You just don't get it.

Glenelg (or any other team) has no reason to worry about comparing ourselves to your recent performances.

You are NOT a powerhouse of the SANFL, or even a leading club. And neither is Glenelg, by a long stretch. We are aware of that, you are not.

There are far better (and more relevant) teams for us all to worry about.

Sturt are weak and were thrown in the creek a few years ago.

we were chucked in the creek a few years ago (even my year 4 classmates told me that), but we got out and won a flag. :D

tassie, seriously in response to your post, im just glad now that rick is tied up for more years as the coach. obvisously there was a reason why a shorter contract was signed in the beginning and maybe it was on ricks terms then?? have to ask stuart on that one.

eitherway, keeping this core together is going to be exciting for us fans.

go you blues :)

maybe a reason for the shorter contract period was this was Rick's first appointment as a senior coach and maybe it was agreed that maybe if it didn't work out then we can go separate ways without then need for messy contract payouts.

I guess so Borat, with so little being written by Glenelg supporters in comparing their team to Sturt's recent performances, how silly of us to think you were making an issue of it!
