RIP Bruce Weber

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Macca19 wrote:He did not want to sit back and watch the SANFL contemplate for another 4 years whether it would be a good idea or not. Of course he wanted what was best for Port Adelaide. Thats all that mattered to him. He wanted to ensure his clubs survival.

Im not expecting everyone to give their condolences and talk about what a great man he was. 90% of the state would hate him. What I did expect was the SANFL heads to at least recognise his death, even if it was just a token 'condolences to his family'. To simply ignore it is pathetic.

Another four years? The plan was 1993. Stop making it out to sound like he was a Mother Theresa to the poor underclass that was the SANFL.

Macca, I know you love your footy but man you have some strange ideas about the history of the game.

Well I see a coule of others had theirs deleted as well - my money was on pseudo's post going but that lasted as long as mine! should have run a poll on Webber - that would have given a real indication of what the Footy public thinks of him and what happened in 1990.

Here's an idea (and no I didn't delete any posts)...

Keep writing in THIS thread about Webber - about his death.

And create a NEW thread about the SANFL/AFL teams, entering, money and whatnot and mention who you like.

No, you can mention Webber in the "other" thread - just nothing related to the late 80's/early 90's AND his death.

I think that publicly posting allegations like that is where I draw the line. That's how to get a web-site closed down.

I as a moderator did not delete any of the posts. In the mods section I had my say and others decided the line had been crossed and decided to remove them.I am more than happy to see a thread dedicated to discussing the events of the winter of 89 and the summer of 90.

Just dont slag off on a guy who has less than a week ago died.

Stan deleted my comment - because it quoted a previously deleted comment.

I take your point Booney - the comments may have been deemed in bad taste - but is it the role of the moderator to ensure good taste? If so there will be a lot more deletions!

I would have thought that only comments which threaten the site due to their slanderous or otherwise illegal nature should be deleted. Everything else should be fair go. If anyone says something offensive there is usually plenty of other posters lining up to give them a serve.

No mate, that is not the roll of the moderators, that is why I put my feelings in the mod's section and let the feelings of all the moderators dictate what happened next.

Play on.

Well it is just lucky this thread is not about Adolf Hitler - we wouldn't be able to say anything nasty in case we upset the Neo-Nazis!

Surprised it took this long for someone to make a ridiculous comparison such as this.

Time to delete this thread.

Seriously only a Port supporter wouldn't see the humour in that sarcastic post of mine!

P.S. It is the Port AFL bid that caused the Crows to be formed hastily and before the SANFL planned to enter a team under their terms which has now denied the Crows the chance to get young Gibbs under the father son rule and you lot reakon Webber has nothing to answer for? Ask the bays fans then!

You have missed the point by so far its not even funny anymore. Drebin start a new topic called "Ports AFL bid" or "Bruce weber and football politics" or "the failed bid" or "port are evil" etc etc. Then you can discuss that matter all you want. The issue is not that I believe or any other mods believe he has nothing to answer for. But the issue is that he has just passed away and insulting and slagging off at the guy is not appropriate. What you have just stated in your last post would make for an excellent discussion, but not here, in another topic. Which is point that has been pushed here. It should not have to be spelled out for you.

But Stan how can a tongue in cheek post suggesting he invented a certain type of bar-b-que be slagging off on him? It was an attempt at humour and in no way a personal attack.
