traditionally the big 4 is (alpabetically) glenelg, norwood, port, & sturt

Traditionally, a club in the big 4 would have won more flags than at least 5 other clubs.

How many teams can boast bigger home attendances in the last few years, even when we've been rock bottom?

I would have thought that would only be half of the story though?

IMHO away crowds is a better indication of how a club's doing.

No qualms with that, but how do you officially guage that?

Like I've said before, my own personal suspicions are that Norwood don't have the legions of fans behind them that some believe, but whats to suggest Glenelg do, or that Sturt or North have oodles more in hiding etc?

for me the GF has to stay at AAMI, it is the only game the SANFL play on it and it is a reward for the teams that make the GF to play on the great stadium.

Terrific idea I believe the Adelaide oval should be utilised far more than it presently is it provides easy access to and from the ground and everyone can get there with relative ease. Leave AAMI just for AFL action and let Adelaide Oval be the place to see the best SANFL action.

Hey I think that a GF at AO would be great if it's only going to be 25-30k, but there was about 35k in 2002, from memory about 40-45k in 97,98,99. How many people will be calling for blood when two of the big 3, cause that's all there is to stop the argument :D , play off in a GF for the first time in 10 to 20 years and 10k miss out on a ticket that is more or less regarded as a birth right, and also the SANFL miss out on big revenue earnings. So unless they can decide where it's played once the Grand finalist teams are decided then it's Footy Park for me. I love AO but would be gutted if I missed out on a ticket when there was a staduim sitting empty that I could go to that would hold the capacity.

Cutterman...with your contacts there's no way you'll miss out on a GF ticket if the Blues were to make the cut.

If the Grand Final was held at Adelaide Oval, then the Football Park site should then be bulldozed and the SANFL do what the Jockey club are doing at Cheltenham and go as joint partners with the developers and invest the funds in the SANFL.

Football Park was put there for the use of the SANFL. If it no longer has that purpose then redevelop it. Let the VFL-AFL pay for their own stadium in the railyards in the parklands.

Thats exactly how it should be.SANFL should look after its own competition before its AFL interests ( I am a daydream believer).

Footy Park for me

Ithink you may have missed the point . Footy Park will never be a sellout again for a sanfl GF. Why play at a half empty stadium ? It cheapens the SANFL as TV viewers see too many empty seats which send a poor message. At Adelaide ,most times it will be a sellout which will ADD to the interest of the SANFL so people will want to get a ticket much like what happens with the AFL now, people go cos its the " place to be " as such. As for saca members etc I am certain the SANFL will sort out a suitable package so us everyday supporters can attend. You'll pack them in , live telecasts and huge interest in the local game. How great to hear on the news that the GF is a sellout rather than there is still thousands of tickets available.

Maybe there should be a percentage that can be added for those of us that are members of both the SACA and our respective footy clubs. I'd be curious to know what that number looks like actually.

It surely has to be played at Adelaide Oval! I really do not think a SANFL grand final will pull more than 35 000 any more. The Adelaide Oval is a magnificent ground, and the perfect size for the GF.To be brutally honest,AMMI stadium is a concrete jungle in need of maintenance.(the AFL can have it)
If I were paticipating in an SANFL GF,I sure would rather play in a packed house, than a 2/3 full stadium!!

Personal post ONLY

First I think the Adelaide Oval is a great place for footy but unless the following can be sorted I would have concerns re our GF.

The redeveloped oval will have 35000 capacity.
Given that our GF is part of corporate packages at AAMI plus is also included in the approx 20,000 members of AAMI package these have to be considered.
SACA already has a deal with the SANFL with a payment to ensure SACA members may attend football at the oval including finals - approx 12,000 in the new oval capacity plus the SACA corporates.
Plus for the GF there are invited guests including those involved in the various parades and entertainment, league sponsors, VIPs, plus the participating clubs have special guests, parents etc from interstate or country etc. etc.

I have guessed that all of the above would be catered for in about 11,500 seats leaving 23,500 for the general public.
At AAMI of course the SACA members and corporates and AAMI members are not an issue.

Assuming we still want kids to attend i would suggest 18,000 general adult and 5,500 children tickets.

Given it is likely to be a sellout having to take the extra entitled attendees in to account and thus becomes a more sought after event to attend does the League seek a premium for its product and increase prices from the current $22 per adult to say $35?

If the redevelopment at Adelaide raised the capacity to 42,000 then yes a much better argument as would have 30000 general admission tickets available.

Also general tickets would be still 10000 as standing on the mounds - a long long day for families and kids.

Yes I am old enough to have been in a 60000 crowd at the Oval for past grand finals (slept out overnight at the Richardson gates to be close to front of line - ran like the clappers to get a seat at the southern end on the fence or on the concrete steps so as not to have to stand - packed in and getting any food or loo stops almost impossible but great memories) I dont think re safety and comfort issues that would be allowed now.

I want everyone who wants to go to our GF to be able to - end of season trips for footy clubs from the bush and interstate too and not have it be an exclusive event that is out of reach given food and drink prices and admission for the genuine footy follower.

Exactly. The SANFL clubs paid for it, why should it be taken over 100% by two clubs that play in the old VFL?

Footy Park is the home of football in SA and the main game should always be played there.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Picture this:
Both Crows and Power have a dud season and don't even come close to playing in the AFL finals.
Port and Norwood make the SANFL Grand Final.
