Port Adelaide Magpie Shock!

Postby Rushby Hinds » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:50 pm

Was whispered to me today @ the cricket, by none other then Mr Fatal Berton, that IF the Magpies don't win a grand final this decade....

It will be the ONLY decade EVER while they have been in the comp that they have not won at least one flag!

Yippee!

Come on all other 8 teams, let's all create history together.

Crikey, he's drawing a long bow if he's counting the Port/Torrens flag in 1942!

Lucky that Sturt won in 2002 and the Eagles in 2006 or we could have been staring at a decade of Centrals premierships.

5RPH is dedicating its footy show to Port next Thursday night - wonder if the pressure will be on the players to deliver in 08 or 09 to 'keep the record going' - notwithstanding the 1940s Wedgie.

I assume you aren't counting pre-1927 though when the SANFL was established?

Norwood missing premierships in 3 decades - 1910s, 30s and 60s, since the club was founded in 1878.

Hmm.

And South Adelaide have won premierships. Remember being told that by your grandparents?

I know someone who is a South and a Geelong supporter. Nearly 40, they tasted their first premiership in Aussie Rules just last year thanks to the Cats.

The Port Magpies have only won a flag in one decade. The 1990s , or is the Port multiple identity thing taking over again. Alternatively I suppose Port HAS won a premiership in every decade (2004) so there's nothing to worry about, they can finish 2-9th this year with a clear conscience and sleep easy

I was at a family bbq last weekend and i met an ex port player from the 80's, and it actually spoilt my vision of a port player, because this one had all of his own teeth and could hold a conversation :D . but seriously, he was a great bloke and because i was wearing my glenelg footy club shirt, he came straight over to me and introduced himself to me and talked footy all afternoon.

Centrals fans are certainly looking forward to singing "10 years and youve won stuff all " at Alberton next year.

Like we did at the parade last year.

Reaction. A norwood fan turned to his mate " has it really been 10 years?? " which ofcourse his mate confirmed for him.

Great days.
