The unoffical fan forums for the eagles were hacked last year and were immediately shut down by their administrators.
Looks like continuing to happen.

Its quite common on many forums if you have the board set up so people can post straight away.

Rest assured that doesn't happen on this forum.

Older software is more at risk too.

Nothing to get excited about, nothing's been hacked, a bot's just registered and posted. Nothing a simple delete and ban won't fix which Im sure the admin of the Panther forum will do when he logs on.

I suppose that is the beauty of forums which require a genuine e-mail address and some sort of waiting period before posting. I still LOL'ed

I've managed to reduce the 2-300 spambot registrations a month to 1-2 a week. Chasing these mongrels down and staying ahead of them has become the hardest part of maintaining the forum.

The members are usually polite and well behaved so there is a minimum of wrist slapping (even Bayman starts his occasional posts "Dear Sir" and finishes them with "Yours Sincerely". ) so moderating the forum is no problem.

Wedgie will confirm that the harder you work at stopping them the harder they work at getting through, and there is a hellova lot more of them.

Will have to disagree mate as I have software installed on my phpbb2 forums that limits it (maybe one a day at the most) and the phpbb3 software which we use for SAFooty ensures we get none whatsoever.
As mentioned before I dont let users auto register and one has never posted since I implemented that.
With the phpbb2 software the banning of a wild card email doesnt work (eg *@spam.com) but theres a small script that can fix that.
