Who could captain the Power if Tredrea doesn't come up?

Postby NO-MERCY » Thu Jan 17, 2008 10:28 pm

Could it be one of the Cornes's?
" " Burgoyne's?
I personnally don't think Tredrea will get the nod, but i'm stuffed if i know who will.
Who's your choice?

Tredrea would be about 80% to get it the captaincy, otherwise probably Chad Cornes. Burgoynes not suitable.

3. Tredrea who has not been given any guarantee that his captaincy will continue

probably because the Port Power Board think its a popularity competition bring on Chad Cornes the next captain before they shaft him as well

The Captain's curse will continue........

Wanganeen never wanted the position and was never comfortable with it (the only real option when he was appointed though). Primus' body was shot, he was too big a risk to continue after his last knee injury. I think Tredders will retain the job but the club is just taking a cautious approach to see that he's right to go for the season. No big deal as far as i'm concerned.

Well Im guessing whoever did take over wouldn't lead their side to a 119 point Grand Final loss!
I'll forever be in Warren's debt for that, oh and for being a step ladder for Chappy!

Port Adelaide, since our entry into the AFL,has named the club captain in February. No change to procedure here.If you are all assuming it is to see how Tredrea is going, well I can tell you he is about 80% better than this time last year.(At Xmas last year he was not running)

Tredrea will be our captain this year.My tip for longer term? Kane Cornes.

No one can answer the question why you would appoint a Captain in February? Makes no logical sense at all, but I guess it is Alberton....might indicate why there is a lack of quality leadership down there

If tredrea gets thru Pre-seaon i'm certian he will get it again...i would imagine his form and fitness will determine whether he goes on as skipper in 2009.

The chad for me would be the next logical captain.

Dear oh dear. Yeah, I'm sure that as they run up sandhills and swim laps there thinking 'oh shit, who's going to be captain this year". If any AFL club has a list that mentally weak heaven help them. A real non issue. As Booney said, they appoint the skipper every February and Tredders is fitter now than he was this time last year.

Chad is their best player with daylight second. Every Port player looks to him as the barometer and every other club worries about shutting him down.
He has to get the job, if not this year, than next year.
Better to give it to him now, at his peak, and Warren can just play, but that doesn't take into account any such issues as does Warren truly want to step down, would it change Chad as a player (brief evidence in the past is that it probably would only improve him), are other players coveting job etc etc
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Now that most clubs have a leadership group of about 20 i dont think the role of captain is what it used to be. Look at brisbane they have 4 of them....

Just because there isn't a named captain doesn't mean there is no leadership. You mentioned 'busting a gut'. I reckon leadership at this (what must be the worst) time of the year is provided by leading by example on the track. This is how leaders can identify or enhance their leadership credentials at the club. In Port's case I don't really see this as much of a problem. Being made part of the leadership group could also be a reward for outstanding efforts on the track.
