Watched it, very moving, a great service for a great man.
Still can't believe it and am numb.
If anyone could steer me in the right direction of getting 3AWs commentary of the GF it'd be greatly appreciated.

Ring them they probably have a recording of it that can be downloaded onto CD pretty easily
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Cheers Tassie, will do,

Also found this summary on Bigfooty written by Rusty Hawk as a summary of the service for those who didn't see it:

"Sometimes the tapes don't lie"

The final words by Graeme Bond about his mate Clinton Grybas.

I was lucky enough to attend todays funeral for Clinton.

Thankfully not a religious service even though it was held in a church.

The order of service:

Open and Welcome by Tony Charlton.

Tony MC'd the whole proceedings. Did a wonderful job. Many quotes from famous people linking into the various speakers and giving an overview of what each speaker would talk about.

Tony said he only meet Clinton twice but was honoured that the family asked him to be MC. He also said after listening to Clinton on the radio he actually rang him up (my memory fails a bit here) but essentially just to congratulate him on his work on the radio (words to that effect)

1st speaker: Ashley Grybas. Talked about "Clint" how they as brothers would fit and mum would threaten with the wooden spoon or if that didnt work "wait till your dad gets home". Also spoke of the way Clinton was with his daughter - her God father.

Audio visual tribute (To Clinton's professional work)

2nd speaker: Gerard Healy. Spoke very well. Talked about Clinton and his 8 pens. He had the black, the blue, the red, the thick one, the one to score goals, another to score the points etc. Said after a year of always finding his pens missing he started to bring a 9th and 10th pen just to make sure his co-commentators wouldnt knock off his 8 pens. Gerard also spoke of CG being quite professional and demanding the same of the backroom people, the sound recordists etc. Probably the first time you would have heard something of anger from Clinton.

3rd speaker: Graeme Bond. Bondy spoke about getting Clinton over from the ABC. About sharing an office together until last year when he (I gather) got his own office. Graeme or Tony (cant remember exactly who) said that the schedules for 2008 where all drawn up. CG was going to be AW's lead man at the Olympics and various other sporting events, not just football.

GB last words where "Sometimes the tapes dont lie" as in CG was the best, you only have to listen to his body of work.

Tony Charlton then said Clinton was that the 2000 Olympics and heard Shine by Vanessa Amorosi and it was his favourite song. Whilst talking the band came on and VA sang "Shine"

Maybe just me but as good as it was an accoustic version would have been much better...like I say maybe just me.

4th Speaker: Laurenna Toulmin. LT talked about being the secret or hidden girlfriend for over a year before everyone found out. About how they used to say I love you to each other including when she got up at 04.30am to do the traffic reports it sounded more like "I uvv u" from a very sleepy CG.

Another audio visual, this time of more personal pics from his boyhood to travels around the world to people he had worked with.

Fifth speaker: Rex Hunt. Wow. very emotional. His final words ... which he just got out..was something like "If life is supposed to be so good.... why do I feel so sad"....... That speech did it for a lot of people. I didnt hear anyone balling their eyes out but there couldnt have been many dry eyes after that.

Mike Brady came out and sang "Up there Cazaly" and did it well and personally it was not out of place.

Closing remarks by Tony Charlton and then the coffin left to the music haunting music of "Time to say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

Done a bit of a search and found the full AFL GF 3AW call on 3AWs website as well as many other tributes to Clinton.
For those others interested:
http://www.mytalk.com.au/Stations/Talk/3AW/Pages/clinton-grybas.aspx

I challenge anyone to watch Laurenna's interview with Derryn Hinch and not be in tears by the end of it.
http://www.mytalk.com.au/aspx/pages/mediaplayer.aspx?t=audio&w=5703

Also, I checked my archived photos but unfortunately when I got to meet Clinton it was before I had a digitial camera, I still remember it like it was yesterday with Annie (Mrs Wedgie) paying me out that I was in love with him when I almost fell down the stairs at the Clipsal Powerhouse as it was then known to catch up with him (probably had a bit to do with having a few Coopers too).
He was always willing to catch up and chat as soon as his broadcasting committments allowed it. When he got the job at 3AW the ABC insisted that he couldn't host the NBL on TV anymore, he was quite willing to still cover it but it was the ABCs policy to let him go and the ABC basketball forum which I probably made more posts than anyone else (yeah I know, hard to believe) was in an uproar and we sent many nasty emails to the ABC. It was actually that site which Clinton moderated that gave me an interest in web sites. The ABC didn't relent but as it turned out it was for the better as Clinton had such a huge impact with Foxfooty.

Christ he'll be missed, so many things in life aren't fair. :(

The first time I noticed him was the old days at the Powerhouse for 36er games, they used to do the pregame right in front of my seats....he was a stand out back then and remember thinking that he wont be at the ABC for long...

I was surprised at how affected I was by Clinton's passing. I am not related to him, I have never worked with him and I did not meet the man. But when I found out he was gone I felt as many have said, quite numb and genuinely saddened.

This was Clinton's greatness. He could somehow make a connection to the everyday Joe who happened to be watching or listening to one of his broadcasts. My heart really went out to Dwayne Russell who had to carry on with his shift, business as usual on the day that Clinton died. Towards the end of his shift Dwayne heard what had happened but couldn't relay the news as the family did not yet know. That would have been tough.

Professional, Humourous, Dedicated, Authoritive, Intelligent, Respected...gone. Rest In Peace Clinton Grybas.

regards,

REB

I think for me, it'll hit home come the footy season. As I tune into 3AW to catch Carlton games most weeks, It'll be interesting to hear the dynamics of the box as Clinton was the driving force for the calls, with Rexy as his side kick....

RIP Clinton...

Wedgie you can buy the DVD of the game and it gives you a choice of commentary fomr the TV or a couple radio stations, so you'll be able to find it that way.

Oddly enough, for some time I didnt really enjoy the calls of Grybas.During last season I recall saying so in a thread, somthing like I would rather listen so and so,nothing against him, just didnt have a great argument for listening to him. This relates to my low interest in the basketball he called, not having Fox,and not being a big 3AW fan not giving me alot of exposure to him or his calls.

But,last Saturday I heard the news and reflected upon the way he called, spoke during breaks and looked to be a confident and articulate caller of the game.I realised my limited exposure to him didnt give me the chance to really enjoy his gift. Then seeing the funeral and so many people on here voicing their utter admiration for the man has made me see him in a different light.

Sadly missed by many, and taken from the live of hundreds of thousands of people who enjoy the game, and the way he called it....

RIP

Visual Entertainment Group has been putting out the AFL Grand Final with multiple
commentaries since 2001.
You can get Grybas' immortal call of Akermanis sealing Brisbane's 2002 win as well.

Having missed the service, the special was great and very emotional to see. I lost it when his brother started talking.

What Sheehan said was correct, there has never been this universal respect and sadness at the passing of anyone involved in footy, whether it be Whitten or anybody.

Still cant believe we wont be hearing him call our great game again.

I still shake my head that he's gone.

Listening to his call of the water polo gold medal match gave me goose bumps all over.

We will never get anyone like him ever again.
