Have heard they are doing lots of weight training as well.

Lots of weight training is not a good thing. Less is more when it comes to the weights.

Less is more?

Really depends on what is "lots" of weight training, i would suggest that it is just a remark to illlustrate that they are working very hard on different aspects. Strength, Flexibility and Speed.

I am sure Jack knows what he is doing.

There were a couple of Joraslowsky brothers, at least one played at Glenelg, both finished up at Jervois in the River Murray League, then they went to Morphett Vale most recently which i think was their home club.

Good hard players.

Not sure how Sam will go at league level. very respected player in both RMFL and SFL. But that doesnt mean much at league level.

So what was the purpose of Kilburn recieving a Government grant to build the largest weights room for an Amateur level club in the southern hemisphere?

Surely strength training through weights is a basic requirement for even A1 clubs...

Thats him, burned in the trials, lined up in the seniors round 1 and was gone by round 10 (or even earlier)

The one that was at the Bays a few years back was Matt.
Matt needed to give himself the best chance to make it as he had the build for it but needed to adjust to the pace.

SAm is of a similar size, maybe not quite as athletic but has that bit of grunt in him that could see him compete. Spoke to him just before xmas and said he was still at Morphett Vale so maybe he had a change of heart. Always good to see guys go and give it a crack!

People get carried away when they start weight training. People who have lifted for years only lift two or three times a week, especially if they're training hard at other stuff. Without proper instruction some guys start doing silly stuff out of bodybuilding magazines.

We may have a great weights room and we do have a guy who knows what he is doing helping people out but it's still not being used properly. Most guys just rock up and do a few sets of bicep curls and bench presses when they feel like it.

I doubt it, I'd be very confident in saying all 9 SANFL clubs now would have professional weights routines worked out all for their players on individual basis. If any club didn't I'd be very shocked.
Im pretty sure they'd all address diet, fitness, etc too.

You can do all you like with weight training and build up the muscles , but it still doesn't toughen them up...some of these footballers who regularly get soft tissue injuries need to get out from behind their desk jobs and do some hard yakka work. Swing a sledge hammer all day or push a wheel barrow for a bricky, that will toughen' them up.
You can see i'm from the old school. :D

Word has it the Jack Cahill could not believe South's poor fitness levels when he arrived at the club. Surely having South harder and fitter will make a difference this season and the percieved 'mental weakness' may have also been physical. The big names may have left but the hunger of some of the others may overcome this.... time will tell. Whatever happens this season im sure the panthers are heading in the right direction under Jack.

This is probably just a rumour but is it true that South hasnt had a professional fitness instructor for 3 seasons?
