Your Team's Lineup in 2008

Postby Wedgie » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:32 am

What will your side line up like in 2008 if it has a full squad to choose from?
For this exercise disregard any AFL listed players.

I'll start the ball rolling with a North side I threw together:

F: Wright Weatherley Younie
HF: Ladhams Alleway Motlop
C: Ryswyk Allan Clarke
HB: Ward Schubert Wintle
B: Cubillo McIntyre Ivens

1R:
O'Hara O'Brien Archard

I/C (from): Stribling, Sporn, Krieg, Coulter, Walker, J.Wundke, B.White, Martin, Pfeiffer, Delvins.

C: Jarrad Cicolella Treeby

HB: McKenzie Gogol Powell

FB: Twomey Pedler J. Stewart

Ruck: Inter:
Dabrowski Lee, Geddes, Colville, Redden, Klun, McEntee

Lets hope there are some more recruits to come. When fit (recov. from reco.) R. Fiacchi would be an automatic inclusion.

Not sure that Polly's still there mate, but I reckon he would have fallen back in the pack for league selection.

Will be interesting to see what Alwyn, Coombes and the lad from Wagga can provide, Legs need more footspeed in the middle than Culpy and Borlac imho.

I'd be very disappointed if Norwood's off season recruiting doesn't mean that players like DeJongh, who shouldn't be allowed anywhere within twenty meters of Valtko, Barta and, to a lesser extent, Dawes weren't under considerable pressure for their places next year. Good to see you had Donohue in your team NFC, I reckon he could do good things for us this year.

Just imho and injuries permitting you'd expect Doyle and Phillips to play most of the league games next year and you could hope at least two of Davis, Coombs, Douglas and Alwan can step up to this level as well. Add to that the names we've still got to come and one of the main problems we'll have will be a Westies style integration issue in building a team structure with so many new faces. That and fending off salary cap claims as well. Crybabies.

Given that the only significant OUT is KMac, and there's no doubt he will be missed, I'd at least expect us not to lose any games by twenty six goals next year.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Numerous attempts by the Eagles to recruit good VFL players for 2008 have ended up like Mother Hubbards cupboard. The Eagles appear to be very weak in the area of recruiting and need to strengthen this area of administration to be in contention in future years. To rely on discards and reserve players from other clubs is not good enough. To try and recruit decent players in the new year is very difficult.

If all are fit (and AFL listed excluded) that would be pretty close to the mark. That's a very good interchange to choose from.

Whats the latest with Matt Wright. Presumably wont play in 08, and its understandable that recovery from his injuries is his highest priority, but does anyone know if hes a chance to play league footy some time down the track?

Last I heard he'll be playing in 08 and he was going to start training in January.
Should have another update soon, the fans at the Roost put $400 together for a Christmas pressie for him, unfortunately do to Christmas holidays (I sent it via James Moore at the club) he probably wont get it to January and Im pretty confident when he gets it James will give us an update.

Matty is doing fine, have had some contact with him and his family, as has been said will be on the track and getting himself ready in January, no real guarantees that he will play at this stage but he is pretty confident he will be ok, just a matter of time to see how he gets through preseason
