Isn't the $20mil wholly or partially a government grant?

Doesn't the draw affect similarly other clubs than the Bullies?

I think it's great the Dogs are pushing ahead at a great rate and I hope for their (and your) sake they're successful, but the fact remains they still require help.

Would be interesting to see the AFL justify not giving North Melbourne funding, yet then giving it to a club such as Carlton....

Carlton "borrowed" 1.5 m from the AFL which is due back on the 31st October 2008. We made a 2.9 M dollar profit this year, to reduce our debt to 4 m. So on this trend should be debt free in two years if not sooner, considering that Hyundai & Visy have made rather large sponsorship deals plus the club is predicting a 40000 plus membership base...

Yep.

Mix of Federal, State and Council plus a loy of self funded.

Some, but not all.

We don't play a home game against Collingwood, for instance this year. And i don't think we play one against Essendon either. (may be wrong, CBF working it out)

Both games would have large crowds.

RH a couple of extra home games against Carlton or Collingwood won't make up the amount the Doggies or Roos received from the top up fund

If they did the AFL would just program those games because it would cost them a lot less than having to make the extra $m payments

Its not just a few less block-buster games causing the problems for Doggies, Roos, etc - its more to do with sponsorships, members there's just not enough in 1 city to go around 10 clubs.

However, I would ask is the equalisation fund a 'right' of those clubs who receive it? Some would argue that a club that can't negotiate good deals and has less supporters than other clubs should not be entitled to a top up.

it also assist clubs who came into the comp years after the others had established their fan/teritorial base and to be honest can never expect to be on a level playing field off the ground cause of this...

Hmmm. I'm continually surprised at the repeated comparisons between North Melbourne relocating and Fitzroy merging at an AFL level. There are significant differences.

Wouldn't the North Melbourne situation be closer to resembling the South Melbourne --> Sydney relocation?

I have thought that also Roy and so does Barry Round. Barry said it was hard for the swans to break into the Sydney Market whilst the Gold Coast is a market that is building all the time. Barry was surprised with the amount of north people using Fitzroy as an example. He said look at Sydney now they still have ties with South Melbourne but they are Sydney too.
