I like it.

Gives every worthy player a chance to play.

Good to see Riewoldt etc line up.
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

I would have much rather seen the old format - SA v Vic & WA v Allies, but I will still watch this with interest too. Am hoping like hell that the "dream team" smash the Vics too.

Wasn't it the 2 clubs based in that play in Adelaide and the 2 in Perth that were the biggest protesters against it...... Not sure what an alternative could have been to be honest i think that did the best they could.Well done AFL .

Yes spot on as far as I am aware

The SA team would have taken around 13-16 players out of the Crows and Power .... ditto in the West

That's a higher % than any 1 Victorian team would have had to carry

I don't think the AFL could win with this however I think they have done a pretty good job.
If anyone has a right to be upset it is Western Australia as they started the state of origin concept in 1977.
By having Victoria v the rest it makes it a fair contest and gives everyone more reason to dislike Victorians.
The game will always be played at the MCG due the the drawing powers & the mighty dollar.
By having this concept it will reduce the impact on individual teams.
The only other venue that might be considered in the future is the Telstra Stadium in Sydney to develop the game further in NSW.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

If someone other than Cornes(eg.Ebert,Blight,Robran..) had expressed
this point of view, would it have been a more credible argument?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

I don't think Ebert or Robran would have done it with an arrogant attitude or with an inferiority complex.

Is it better than no game at all ... probably.

Would it be as good as SA v VIC .... no
but then WA, NSW, Tas etc miss out.

My main issue is that the Victorians get to play State of Origin, get to represent their state & wear the Big V at the MCG
and eveyone else does not get the chance to represent their state.

Will be VERY INTERESTING to see what kind of guernsey the "Dream Team" wear.
As the Crows have found with Herritage Week representing mutiple groups in one jumper is very difficult.

The fundamental problem is that there is no compelling alternative that fits with modern day AFL football.

I suspect this weekend is the same one that the SANFL host the VFL at Adelaide Oval.

Maybe everyone who complains about not seeing the SA jumper at AFL level should turn up and support this game.

I'll be interested in seeing the best players play a game of Aussie Rules against each other. I was interested and went to Sydney to watch the World XI vs Australia in the Super Test a couple of years ago. However, what these matches lack is that real competitiveness you get between two teams playing for the jumper. I'm very disappointed we won't be seeing SA vs Victoria. I would've gone to Melbourne to watch that. This match I'll take a minor interest watching on tv. If only we could have an election to get rid the AFL administration!

That is because of the sheer weight of numbers. Each year 50% of the players drafted are from Victoria.

You might want to cast a vote on this sportal poll. According to this so far this match has a 61% backing.

On the Fox sports 'ribbon' that runs below the main view it described Graham Cornes as an 'AFL Great!' Must have been a helluva five matches he played.

REB, don't get sucked into the VFL = AFL conspiracy

Cornesy played as many AFL games as Alex Jezalenko (sp?) did (ie, NONE seeing as AFL only started in 1990 or so)

He also played as many SANFL games (and prob State games) as Jezza did VFL games

In fact, Cornesy is one up because he played both SANFL and VFL while Jezza never tested himself over here
