Interesting to hear/read all the different reactions to the Kingsley spray.

I'm from the generation where we copped far worse so thought his was a pretty well timed and effective spray that based on the reaction worked. All for it in the right time and place.

I've seen bits of it on socials.

I think it still has a place, but now it's the exception, rather than the rule. He did it well, glossed over the young bloke who had the courage to say what the forward line structure should be, but absolutely nailed the senior leaders of the team, knowing they'd respond.

There's a fine art to a good spray, I've seen some modern coaches attempt it in local footy and most of the time, it just falls flat.

Yep agree. You probably only get the 1-2 sprays a year that will MAY be effective. Anything more than that and you're a rambling maniac.

Like you said he didn't take the easy option and nail the kids he went for the leaders.

I've watched four so far and enjoying it too, I love all 'behind the scenes' sort of media in footy and cricket giving an insight into how the elite go about talking about, planning and playing the game and like you said the access they've given is incredible. I'm a fan of Kingsley not just because he's a former Port player and obviously still enjoys pumping weights at his age but because he’s a very hard and honest man, I've liked listening press conferences and interviews since becoming coach. He obviously knows the talent they have and desperately doesn't what it to go to waste.

The spray was interesting, but then you see during the week he has one on one's with the players to make sure he puts his arms around them also.

IMO you keep the spray for 1-2 times per year, when is it deserved, if you use it all the time you aren't going to last long at any level.

Big deal being made of nothing, lots of clubs do it.
In fact at Carlton, if you bequest enough the leadership group will be your pall bearers.
Just so they can let you down, one more time…

Most clubs have a bequest offering but this is the first I’ve heard of a club deliberately sending targeted emails to those of a certain age group before
