Not much of a tennis fan but I tune it generally later in the AO, especially if an Aussie is still floating about.

Loved the way Alex De Minuar has tackled this comp and everything about him oozes the class that we've been hit and miss with in regards to our tennis players over time. He gave it everything and showed some real class.

But I really rate Carlos Alcaraz, haven't seen much of him but he is the ultimate professional, and only 22 years of age.

When he got De Minaurs time violation overturned was pure great sportsmanship, I now have a favourite tennis player.

While I'm showing a bit of love for peolpe, I really rate Robert Irwin, he comes across as a genuine good bloke and a great role model for our youth along with a great ambassador for our country.

Yeah, we're good at chopping people down with our tall poppy syndrome we have in Australia but I reckon old Steve would be super proud of the man Bob has become. Good shout.

I’ve been to the AO a few times, should be on the bucket list for anyone who remotely likes tennis.

Yep, when Alcaraz spoke up to the chair umpire was pure class. He’s also up there as one of the smartest players on court and is an extremely quick learner.

Sinner has a similar demeanour, but his drug incident has soured his reputation somewhat.

Not trashing De Minaur, just noting that he’s on the 2nd top rung of world tennis, a great achievement, but unless things change, won’t go that extra step.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

My sentiments too on Sinner, once a sinner always a Sinner.

Yeah, the Demon has come back well and looks the part, just can't match the class for a sustainable amount of time, he looked right on top a few times but Carlos is far more composed and has plan's B & C to turn to if he's getting matched.

Yeah great call on all fronts.

I do like Sinners sins because it does make it easier to be team Alcaraz who is all class as mentioned.

It is a shame for Demon because as you mentioned his the most likeable tennis player we have had in many years. I will admit though im not as big a Kyrigos hater as others. Is he a wasted talent? 100% he is, does he realise this and is he too bothered...........not at all. He makes no apologies for that which im ok with. Some of the disrespect and the way he has talked to people ect im not cool with however.

The irony with Kyrgios is that in his prime, he was capable of beating anyone on the tour, and going deeper in the Grand Slams, but would never have achieved the sustained ranking that de Minaur has.

I don't mind Kyrogis, it must've hard not knowing how to spell your surname until Year 9, he is undoubtably a wasted talent and he had the attributes to win a grand slam, just not the mental toughness or desire, but like you said, he's cool with that.

He just wanted to be the showman, he can be a knob at times and he annoys us all, he can also be a decent person, each to their own IMO and I won't lose any sleep over the directions he's chosen, just unfortunate he never reached his full potential.

If he had taken more care of his body I'm sure he could've, but that would've interfered with his social life.

I used to think he was a massive knob, but seeing him live at the AO was a great experience, he just knows how to work the crowd.

Billiards table re-cloth begins.

The old girl has stood up well for nearly 50 years, although looks like someone has tossed off on it

I guess pricing depends on size, mine’s an 8 x 4.

re-cloth $920
replace rubber in cushions (highly recommended) - add $340

My cloth was glued, so he recommended it be streched instead, so had to install wood supports under the slate, this added another $175

Not cheap, all up $1,435, but with a quality slate table it’s worth the investment.

I reckon I could have done all but the stretching, and you’re right, do something for the first time and you’ll know what to after you’ve faarked it up.

Are you keeping it green?

Mine is about 16 years old but it does see some sun, the timber and the cloth on the outer edge nearest the window have both faded, and hoping it won't fray for a while yet.

Yep, will keep green. He did ask me if I wanted pink

I'm amazed my cloth was sill in one piece after nearly 50 years, apart from the stains, it was starting to come apart just by brushing, so more than overdue.

I was initially really pissed about the stains on the cloth, as my sister had it for many years and in the end didn’t look after it, but when I inspected and saw the wear, it had to be replaced anyway, so the stains didn’t matter in the end.

I got mine made by a bloke at Lonsdale, sadly the shop is no longer there. Had a whole range of colours and could even etch logos by computer into the cloth.

I went with red, which looks great. Only problem I found was that if someone brought a cue over and had different coloured chalk on the tip, it left a mark! Thankfully it comes out after a while and I have a box of red chalk on hand in case.

Reckon it's 7 by 3.5, the bloke had a chart that showed room size requirements for optimal play.

I think I paid about $2K, this was back in about 2008 so the memory is a bit hazy
