I asked if she could give me 5 minutes to see what skill sets I had on site, who I could steal from other areas and who I could potentially get to come in early.

A couple of people said "why would she come in if she wasn't feeling well!

I think it's admirable for her to still front up, others think it's foolish, thoughts anyone?

If she's "COVID" type sick then I'd suggest, we tell our staff, err on the side of staying away but we have no issues if people show up and we can make a call like you did.

Exactly how I see it.

Tough on casual workers when they are sick, don’t turn up, don’t get paid.

That’s the sort of employee I would want, you genuinely know if they call in sick they are sick.

Yeah, she wasn't coughing etc. so I thought she done the right thing.

I messaged her to make sure sher got home alright and then reminded her to not be worried having to inform me if she's unwell.

She is a casual on the brink of going on permanent.

Sounds like she should definitely be made permanent

She's an absolute gun mate, works every bit of overtime I offer, even at last minute. She clocking in at 1 minute to or right on, I had a chat with her and now she's anywhere between 5-10 minutes early. She was signed off as competent by herself for one role in her 2nd week, I've never had anyone signed off inside 6 weeks previously.

Sounds like she should be full time if shes smashing records like that

And as others have said, good on her for fronting up. Rather have staff like that opposed to staff who just rort the sickies.

Woman who works for me is the same.
When she started 18 months ago she wanted to WFH Thursday and Friday as she has to travel from West Beach to/from Kent Town every day
As she hadn't worked for me for 20 years, and didn't know our systems, I said no but I would keep it in mind
She was on 3/2 in 6 months and is fantastic. I have to tell her to stop working some days.
She takes her laptop to her daughter's soccer practice when it's at 4pm
Because she works past 5pm I give her RDOs when she needs to do stuff with her family / kids etc.
Like a marriage, WFM can work until one side takes the pi$$

I've seen the good and the bad of WFH, I had 3 women working for me and when two of them had to WFH they got more done than normal days, the 3rd trialed it a couple of times but was barely contactable, one day she replied to me 2 hours later and when I questioned her she said she had to have a nap.

When she asked if I could organise a laptop for her so she could start WFH more often I said "seriously, you don't even work from work". She used to come in and sit on my desk like Edna Krabappel and start yapping away.
