Same as the Starc one in England, I don't agree with it but that's how they wanna roll. Could see it causing all sorts of drama at community cricket level or in the backyard.

That decision just shows how much they've overengineered the new rules about catches, which absolutely nobody asked for.

Not out everyday of the week. I dont think ive ever taken a catch where i put the ball on the ground like that, I was always taught that you dont.

Agree, ball wasnt controlled as it hit the ground completing the catch. Not out based on the current laws.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Genuine question though....but if that happened in your BLCA game when you were a player and you were main umpire. Are you calling the fielding side out on that and telling your batsmen not to walk because its not out?

Wait a sec.......i may know what you would do

Absolutely!!
And there is no need for the Laws people to complicate it with all this in control of your body rubbish. If the ball touches the ground its not out like it always has been.

That wasn't out 10 years ago, he had control of the ball for long enough and the ground played no part in assisting him hold the catch.

It's the tweak in the rules that has made it "not out".

When I played it was always keep the ball from touching the ground (post catch) when you fell as part of the catching motion, if you fell over you made sure the ball remained up even if you had to take all the impact on your other side or elbow goes into the turf and arm stays upright. If you start allowing this type of catch then it will get very grey very quickly.

I played high levels of cricket, been to many coaching courses when I was involved in state squads and it was never an issue up until the last few years. I’d go as far as saying if an outfielder tried your proposed method of catch they’d end up with a broken wrist in this instance and Starc’s.
It was always as long as you had control of the ball for long enough, in both instances they did IMO, it was always the early celebration that got the fielder unstuck, that’s why I always instructed my players to not throw the ball up after a catch, you simply return it to the umpire.

Of course as long as you control it for long enough, without the ball touching the ground when the ball is in your hand

We could go on forever with this, at the end of the day the rule says it's out, you agree with it and I don't, nothing will change either opinion.
