Who does the emboldened 'we' refer to LM? The players, forumites or the general public?Lightning McQueen wrote:we're just not as good as we think we we are without our full compliment of bowlers
There's consensus that we have relatively good bowling depth (at least compared to our batting depth). Is this what you're referring to?
I can't recall any members of the current team being unreasonably bullish about our second string bowlers (bearing in mind that if asked they're naturally going to project a fairly upbeat view).

Don't hate him in at all....in fact i spent a lot of great time with Trav when he was younger and know him pretty well. He spent his entire school entire through his primary school years at the Craigmore Y vacation care to which i was working in the holidays. Spent hours on hours bowling to him every holiday and getting smashed all over the place by him.
It's clear though through comments from himself and the coach that once the series was won the focus has gone a bit. Knowing Trav he would have said it somewhat tongue in cheek but also somewhat genuinely as he enjoys life away from cricket as well.
Our bolwing was lacklustre, I don't think it was through lack of effort or desire, I'm sure they all wanna get them out and spend time in the shed, we're just not as good as we think we we are without our full compliment of bowlers, we've always bowled in pairs that compliment each other, we don;t have that at the monent and despite recent efforts Root and Brook are world class batters, we only have 1.5 world class bowlers playing atm.
I'm not sure that Harry Potter would'v made much difference, probably would've only improved our pathetic over rate, obviously the penalties are too soft, 45 overs and we finished up about 12 minuted before the scheduled tea break. Watching live you see how long the run ups are and how much time they waste piss-farting around, there is no sense of urgency whatsoever.
I don't think whuffer was saying Head's attitude meant england made it to 3/210 yesterday.
Whuffer, in my opinion, was suggesting that head's comment, one of 'silver linings' rather than bitter disappointment after losing the boxing day test in 2 days, shows the attitude within the Australian dressing room.
Head's comment, was another example, that the dressing room considered the job done after adelaide, and they haven't been quite as switched on since.
Even if Whuffer wasn't saying that, then I will.
The Aussies, since Adelaide, haven't played with the same intensity.
Starc's total lack of celebration on the first wicket of this test shows that for mine.
I agree with previous comments, that the boys appear to be going through the motions for these last two tests, rather than playing with that absolute desire to win at all costs.

Some forumites and basically whoever I discuss cricket with, along with what I hear through the media, we take Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon out of the side we lose nearly 1200 wickets.RB wrote:Who does the emboldened 'we' refer to LM? Boland's best and worst are worlds apart, Neser is servicable and quite handy, compared to the relentless pressure that Cummins and Hazelwood apply then you can see how much easier it can be for the Poms.

At a guess, the fact that Stokes bowls, comes in at six, and is capable of winning a test off his own bat - if occasionally, and albeit not in Australia - probably weighs on most people's minds.batmanbegins wrote:Always seems a weird argument to me. I agree with you though, his batting average of 25 in Australia should mean that he cops at least as much as Root.

Re: The Ashes 25/26
The problem is that for the last eight years we've had a stable committed test attack. This has made blooding the next level difficult. At the same time they took a minimum of four years (Hazelwood) before they started to dominate in 2017-18 - Starc debut in 2011 Cummins in 2010. Both Hazelwood and Cummins had to overcome significant back injuries.RB wrote:Who does the emboldened 'we' refer to LM? We have some young prospects who are treading the same path (recovering from back injuries) Morris, Vidler & Johnson and Richardson is just coming out the other side of shoulder and back injuries. Doggett and Buckingham are potentials so we have depth but they just haven't been tested enough at international level yet especially as we saw with the current three that it takes 4+ years post their debuts to properly learn the caper.
Thees going to be a dip when they all go. Us keyboard warriors will be critical and claim they are sh!te but the reality is that we need to start getting them in and letting them learn this test caper ready for 2027 in England.

I think it's more to do with what we expect from them.RB wrote:At a guess, the fact that Stokes bowls, comes in at six, and is capable of winning a test off his own bat - if occasionally, and albeit not in Australia - probably weighs on most people's minds.batmanbegins wrote:Always seems a weird argument to me. Root is class, so the fact it took him til his 18th test in Australia to get a red ball ton here, was surprising, and an obvious item to question.
Stokes is meh, so people didn't expect much from him, so when he averages 30 with the bat here, no one is overly surprised so it doesn't attract the same amount of commentary as Root's (now resolved) issue.

Having to forcibly change 3 at once itsn't ideal. Blooding one at a time is more apt.am Bays wrote:The problem is that for the last eight years we've had a stable committed test attack. Do you think it has something to do with the absence of Cummins' captaincy/onfield leadership?Trader wrote:
