Far from me to defend politicians, but we’re going to start sacking people for utilising the benefits they are entitled to?
Should they have these entitlements? Well, that’s a different issue, but they do legally have them, so this lynching is popular every now and then and seems to score some political points, but if you’re going to apply the imaginary ‘pub test’ to all 150 members of the House and 76 Senators, there won't be many left standing.
The business class travel for family members is a legitimate entitlement, even if we don’t like it.
So let’s start randomly applying the ‘pub test’ to ordinary people in normal jobs, even though you legally have entitlements as part of your salary package. Let those who have never gone out and dined and wined on the company card cast the first stone.
Some of the entitlements politicians enjoy make perfect sense, some are simply outrageous, but until you have a system where they’re not in control of their salaries and entitlements (spoiler alert, ain’t going to happen), then forever be outraged.
No issues with most of the entitlements as you need to attract quality people and these help.
It’s when they take the piss that’s an issue. Why have a car sitting there for 7 hours and HTF does it cost $1000

Don’t disagree. The ‘Pub Test’ may need to be applied to ComCar drivers, a nice little group to be part of if you like to oink, oink.

Medium wages + turbocharged overtime I know an ex-driver. He earned a fortune from all of the overtime
I went to a stag party in Clare a few years back A certain Minister for Defence rolled up in his Comcar The Comcar waited there for 4 hours then drove him back to Adelaide This Minister is from Adelaide and was / remains someone to not trifle with, so nothing was said but.........

Christopher wouldn't dare, would he?
I'm surprised he went to the stag show, would have thought he'd be happier at the hen's

Nope - I wouldn't hesitate to ruffle his feathers(& he truly does have them)

The stag would have been a richer target environment for him but it wasn't him

Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

There is one thing having the entitlements, but another is respecting them.
What does respecting them mean? Either what they claim is legit according to their legislated entitlements or it isn’t.
If they’re legit and we don’t like that they’re legit, then that’s a valid whinge, but they haven’t done anything ‘wrong’. The pu…, ummm, well, that ‘other’ test is meaningless, just a way to highlight a grievance.
The new social media laws for Under 16s, however well intentioned, is most likely going to be a complete failure.
Each site required to comply will have their own verification systems, which are expected to either be easily bypassed or ineffective. Those sites requiring evidence of age will just add that info to the data already mined, used and sold for ultimate profit.
There are alcohol laws and people still find ways around it. There are always ways around if, it’s well intentioned and may just be of some help to some people.

Perhaps.
I get it, personally I think social media is the scourge of society and the genie is out of the bottle.
How does one measure the impact of the new Laws, or monitor for refinements/improvements?

Speaking of, Festivus is nearly upon us.
Everytime I work interstate Im entitled to claim up to $100 per day for food/drink etc, One time I claimed over $50, the rest of the time it is less than $50.
Even though there is an "entitlement" there is still an expectation that common sense use applies and can be scrutinised. If i went out and spent $99 every day I would rightfully questioned.

Yeah, nah. Any work entitlements we get is maxed out. If we are given $100 I’m spending every cent of it
